Cutting is addicting. In order to stop an addition of any kind, the answer is simple! Replace the bad habit with a good/healthy habit.
Masturbate: This is a tricky topic that I will have to dedicate an entire chapter to in the future. Basically, when you feel like cutting, take a shower, and masturbate. (This is my personal alternative and it works probably the best. I haven't cut for over 6 months!!)
Take a walk around the block: It's healthy, free, and helps you cool down. I like doing this while listening to the London Philharmonic Orchestra's "50 Darkest Pieces of Classical Music", which leads us to our next alternative.
Listen to classical music: I know, I know, you're too good for classical music. You'd rather listen to your music. But the thing is, if you listen to the wrong kind of music when you feel like cutting, it can only make the situation worse. Studies have shown that classical music slows down the human heart rate faster than any other genre! And the best part is, it works with basically any classical song, no matter how dark! I'm a big fan of "Toccata and Fugue in D Major: and "Adagio in G Minor for Strings and Organ".
Do a hobby: Whether it be DIY to annoying you neighbors by playing your violin outside, everybody has a hobby. My method is very fun and has a whole system tied it! First I fix (black) coffee, grab cheese sticks, and my nook. I plop myself on the couch in my dad's office and turn on Criminal Minds, while reading gothic novels such as "Floating Staircase" and "Interview With The Vampire", and eating cheese sticks and coffee. Then, whenever I feel like moving again (which is usually like 6 hours), I fix more coffee, go to my room, turn on a movie like Lord of the Rings, turn on a radio station that either plays classical or metal, and I continue reading my book. Doing this, you need to rid yourself from ALL electronics such as phones, mp3 players, etc. I will do a future chapter on a list of hobby ideas.
Go to your happy place (physically): I like to go to parks and swing, sometimes I go to a historical cemetery, Maybe yours is a friends house. MAYBE IT'S FUCKING HOT TOPIC! I don't care, just get yourself out of the place that you usually cut.
Go to your happy place (mentally): This is a cool one. First you light some candles, turn off all the lights, and just make sure you're in a very dark place. Then sit down in a yoga position or meditating position. Take deep breaths in and out and relax. Make all of your tensions go out on each exhale. Focus only on your breath. Once you mind is completely cleared, imagine a place. This could be from you going to Transylvania to meet Vlad The Impaler, to having cookies and catching up with your deceased grandmother, to simply just taking a walk in your favorite park. The cool part about this one is that it is all your imagination, so you could literally do ANYTHING or go ANYWHERE. Once I was Gerard and Lynz's daughter and we watched a movie together! It's very fun.
Meditate: Look it up, do it. It will relieve all of your worries and help you relax.
DON'T listen to EMO music: When I was cutting, all I did was constantly listen to emo music. I listen to emo music now, but just not as much. I had to take a break for a long time from it. If you are emo, just try it out? Try listening to some metal bands, maybe Gerard Way's solo work, stay away from screamo such as Pierce The Veil. Just try, okay? Maybe instead of listening to emo music 24/7, shuffle your genres around a little bit. If you are going to try this, also try staying away from punk and hardcore. I like listening to creepy children's music XD on youtube.
I will update this in the future with more alternatives
