Impatiently, you sat at your dining table -a place not too far from your shared front door that partially shook, given your nervous bouncing leg.
All day you had been pacing the house, staying home from work and decorating the endroit smally in order to give your partner a surprise when he came home; the doctor said that she couldn't tell the gender of the baby just yet, so small ribbons of a light green and the like decorated around you sparsely -the two of you would have to clean it all up after all, and honestly, you didn't want to have a gigantic mess to attend to once he did finally come home.
'Once he finally comes home...'
You were starting to become seriously worried at this point; the man hadn't shown up at all since he had left, and it was quite abnormal for him to be gone from home overnight without at least telling you, 'Maybe he forgot to tell me,' you reasoned to yourself, 'Maybe Hange pulled him away for experimentation and he hasn't been able to come home yet because of them.'
The worry had been building up in you since this morning when you woke up however, and no matter how much you trusted Moblit, you couldn't help but be concerned; no, you didn't think he would cheat on you, you just didn't have the slightest idea where he was. You were worried for his safety.
Just when you were starting to lose yourself in your more panicked of thoughts, there was a knock placed upon the sturdy wood of the door.
Knock, knock.
Immediately, you jumped out of your seat -almost tipping it over in your rush as an enormous grin fell onto your lips, 'The Walls, I can't wait to tell him!'
Grasping the metallic knob in your dominant hand, you twisted and pulled the contraption open, the bright light shining through -as you had made the room darker so that Moblit couldn't see anything through the windows- as you greeted your husband, "Heya Mob, I'm-!"
The words died in your throat, seeing that -instead of your adoring husband- Hange was at the opened frame, "Hange...? What's happened?"
They were in a terrible state, they looked battered and bruised, and in place of one of those maroon spheres you had learned belonged to a great friend, was a black eye patch that seemed to be crusty with a drying blood. The frown on their face and downcast look made all of the fears inside you amplify, and just when you thought they couldn't get any worse, they were strengthened by their temporary silence.
Then they dropped down onto their one knee, bowing before you with their right fist over the left side of their chest where their heart laid beneath the skin -they were saluting to you, "(Y/N), Moblit, he's..."
Dread filled you completely, your knees not listening to your will and bringing you to the floor on her level as the terrible feeling weighed you down entirely -your eyes starting to tear up in fear, "What, he's what, Hange?"
'Anything but this, not when I just found out that I could provide him and I with a family, not now. Now when everything was going so right!'
You needed to hear it from her straight, you wouldn't believe her otherwise, "This morning, he... He sacrificed himself for me. Moblit's gone because... because of me."
That was the exact moment that your world broke all around you, you not even being aware of the guilty hug Hange embraced you in as you both mourned over your loss. The ring felt heavy on your finger, and you felt a surge of loneliness coursing throughout you despite the child growing within you, "Hange, I never even got to say goodbye..." you mumbled out through clenched teeth, leaning into their embrace as they sought as much comfort as you did from them, "I didn't even know that he was leaving the Walls..."
'That's probably why he left early, because he had to prepare and didn't want to worry me.' The thought only made the tears steam even steadier down your cheeks, 'He could have at least left a note, goddamn it! And now he's gone! Why?!'
And as much as you wanted a reason or figure to blame, you wouldn't blame Hange; you were sure Moblit had a good reason for risking himself like that, he wasn't one to act irrationally.
You just wish that things had been different.
On Tuesday, he left you weak.
well shit I actually feel sad after writing that one... oh well, I'll be fine ಥ_ಥ(it does feel good to finally write it after having thought of it like half a year ago in december though-)
