CHAPTER 5

“What? Why do you want to know about that?” Pan asked slamming her locker.

“Oh...Um… Just curious, I guess!” I said laughing pathetically.

“Tessa, I know when you’re lying.” Pan replied, organizing her text books in her bag, dropping loose papers everywhere.

“I don’t know! Lyn asked me to ask, she wouldn’t tell me what was wrong!” I exclaimed stomping my foot.

“Wait, something’s wrong with Lyn?” Pan asked tossing her back pack over her shoulder.

“I found her outside in the middle of the night when she should have been in the hospital! She looked as if she had run all the way from the hospital! She said it wasn’t a dare, that she was in trouble but I when I asked what she meant she just said ‘The less you know the better.’ She freaked me out, but I promised to get her some things and bring them too her, but I didn’t know where she is going to be. She told me to ask you about when you were little so that way I would know where she went to hide!” I said inhaling sharply at the end.

“Woah…Slow down!” Pan said. “Let’s talk somewhere private…” Pan gently pushed me forwards leading me to the empty bio class two doors down from us.

“What are we doing here?” I asked.

“Well I’ll start from when Lyn and I were little…” Pan said locking the door so no one could interfere. “Lyn was sleeping over at my house one night. Just before bed my mom told us the story of Damaged, a story we had heard a thousand times. Have you heard the whole story?” I shook my head in response. “Well it goes as follows; ‘Since the dawn of heaven and hell there has been a bloody angel by the name of Damaged. This angel was thrown from heaven with Lucifer when they went against god. The only difference is that Damaged had his wings torn from his back and burned while he watched. Doing so took most of his powers away and changed him into a beast. Someone who had claws for fingers, fangs for teeth, and eyes of pure black. They say that Lucifer found a use for Damaged’s warped powers. Apparently Lucifer discovered that Damaged can rip the soul from whoever he wants. Lucifer, being the new found ruler of hell, and Damaged, still young at the time, found a system; a way to work with each other. But slowly Lucifer destroyed that system and took control of Damaged sending him to do the dirty work. Some say that if you don’t appreciate your soul Lucifer will appear before you and set Damaged loose to collect your soul.’” Pan said. “When my mom left us to go to bed herself, we stayed awake and talked about what would happen if Damaged came for one of us. We decided we would meet at the willow tree in Willow Park. We would bring the one being chased whatever they asked for and then help them get the hell out of dodge!” Pan finished with a sigh, clearly glad that she was done talking.

“I have one question…Which Willow tree? Willow Park is named for its amount of willow trees, there has to be thousands!” I said

“THE Willow tree. The only one that could hide a full grown person!” Pan said.

“Is there a tree like that?” I asked, not remembering a tree of such a size.

“Yes, but very few people actually know where it is, that’s why Lyn and I made it our meeting place.” Pan said sighing.

“But if that’s where Lyn is hiding…do you think…” I said slowly trailing off.

Suddenly the door burst open and a stranger with shaggy black hair and Dark brown eyes.

“Oh…Um, I’m sorry I didn’t realize anyone was in here.” The boy said, his cheeks a little pink. I was about to move forward and tell him it was alright but Pan stopped me.

“Who are you?” Pan asked.

“Oh, sorry about that, how rude of me… My name is Daniel.” The boy said with a sheepish smile. “I’m actually looking for my cousin… Lynoia, you haven’t seen her have you? Her dad is really worried.”

“Yeah…WE know where she is!” I said ecstatic I could help.

“Really?! Where is she?!” Daniel exclaimed looking excited and relieved.

“She’s hiding in the small forest behind the mall.” Pan said before I could say anything.

“Thank you so much! I’ll go tell uncle!” Daniel said running off.

“Pan, why did you lie to her cousin?” I asked confused.

“Because She only has one cousin…That’s Ricky.” Pan said looking grim. “I don’t know who that was but tonight we’ll take what she needs to her and then lead that boy on a little goose chase to give her some time to get out of town.” Pan said. She was completely serious.

“But… Pan…” I said not entirely sure what I should say.

“I don’t know what’s going on but I will find out, and I will help my friend. She won’t get taken from us.” Pan looked a little scary. She was determined to protect Lynoia.

Damaged’s POV

“She isn’t here!” I raged punching a tree leaving a dent and a little bit of blood behind. “Those girls lied to me!” I scratched the back of my head thinking. “Where are you Lynoia?” I asked myself. I looked around at the tree’s they were all healthy and fresh, then I looked at the sky, the stars had just come out but there was no moon. It was weird; I had a vague sense of freedom. I had never been out of Hell this long. Usually I killed who ever needed to be killed then went back, but this time, the person I’m supposed to kill is running. It was a new concept for me to have so much room. I sighed and looked at the ground. “If I don’t find you I’m going to die…” I said still slightly frustrated.

“Who’s there?!” Came a shaking voice from the dark. “This is private property if you don’t leave I’m calling the cops!” The voice said. A flash light skimmed by me. It was apparent I had to leave, so I climbed a tree and ran.
