The dust had cleared from where Sarada was standing. A small crater was left in her place, smoke dissipating around the edges. Kawaki leaned against the wall, holding his left arm. He glared around the area. The enemy was gone.Kawaki grunted as he tried to stand up. Footsteps echoed from the entrance. "Kawa-!" Boruto tripped over a pile of old scrolls, grunting. Mitsuki helped the Uzumaki up.
"Where's the nin?" Boruto looked around curiously, spotting the crater. Nothing else was there save for Kawaki limping towards him. "Where's Sarada?"
"I don't know," Kawaki attempted to pick up the scrolls, wincing. "What do you mean you don't know?" Mitsuki investigated the tiny crater. He rubbed his hands on the smooth surface, heat steaming from his hands as he pulled away.
Boruto approached Mitsuki. "What is it?" The crater was unnatural for a cave. It was smooth. Too smooth. "Where's the sensei?" Kawaki questioned.
Mitsuki didn't answer. He made his way towards the scrolls, picking them up. "He's somewhere?" Boruto answered. It was odd that they hadn't seen him yet.
"Sarada!" Boruto shouted. He walked around the cave, calling for his friend. No one answered, save for his desperate echoes. Mitsuki walked over to Boruto with scrolls in his arm. "We may be able to get some information from these,"
The Uzumaki stared at the scrolls curiously. They seemed to give off a strange aura. His karma started to feel queasy, an unsettling eagerness to get away from them. Kawaki watched as Boruto's hands retracted from the scrolls. It was as if they had a mind of their own. Or Momoshiki.
"We should get this back to the old man or Mr. Sasuke," Both Mitsuki and Boruto glanced back at the crater, a sense of worry washing over them.
Kawaki led the way out of the cave system and back towards the carriage. Boruto's clones dispersed as they closed in with the little scrolls that survived. The carriage driver paced the cart anxiously as he stroked his chin.
The carriage was fine other than a few rips in the tarp. Mitsuki stuffed the recently damaged scrolls into his satchel. Amid the downed ninjas, two were tied up onto a tree with little to no comfort.
Boruto approached the two. "What can you tell us about these scrolls?" He asked. The man huffed, looking away in a pathetic attempt at seeming mysterious.
"Strange how an Uzumaki doesn't know of their heritage," The woman said. She stared at Boruto curiously, smiling. Kawaki observed the moment cautiously. The smile of the nin was sinister like this whole thing was a huge joke. It amused her. Something was off about the whole thing. "Where's the sensei?" He asked, approaching Boruto. "Mmm, The Sarutobi?"
Kawaki morphed his arm into a blade, poking her neck. "Stop wasting my time," The female began to hum a tune. The boy scowled as he walked away, annoyed. He stuffed his hands into his pockets, trying his best not to grimace at his pain.
"We should head back to the village," Boruto suggested. "Shouldn't we finish the mission?" Kawaki questioned. Boruto walked up to Kawaki, grabbing his shirt. "Our sensei and teammate is missing and you're worried about the mission?!"
"The point of this whole thing was to complete a mission, that was what was ordered," Kawaki grabbed Boruto's wrist. "Aren't shinobi's suppose to be able to follow out a mission despite losses?"
"I wish you'd stop acting like you know everything," Kawaki scoffed, his grip tightening. "I wish you would get the basic structure of survival," Boruto let go of him. "The life of a shinobi is far different from what you were taught."
"Shinobi's are pointless," Boruto punched Kawaki square in the face without hesitation. The boy fell to the ground gracefully, transforming his arm. The two stared at each other with the intent to kill. Mitsuki watched carefully, curious as to how the moment will play out. A snake fell from his sleeves, slithering away as the two continued their eye staring contest.
