Lila, just Lila

Taran POV:

"Mother, please" I beg.

"Fine," she sighs. I grin. Hanging out with Lila has made me much more confident.

The girl is like a wildfire just waiting to be released. She literally has more secrets than she has enemies and she makes an enemy out of almost every single person she meets. I've known her for four whole years and she is still a mystery to me.

I finally convinced my mother to let me go to real school. Perhaps I can see Lila in the sunlight for the first time. That is, if she can sneak out of the adoption center. Which she probably can considering the fact that she is an escape artist.

Lila almost never talks about herself. All I know is that she is from Brazil, she grew up speaking Portuguese, Spanish and a little bit of English. I taught her how to write in English while she taught me how to curse. The only other thing I know is that her favorite color is turquoise.

I plan on prying out more information tonight. I slowly slip out of the back door at 12:00am and run to the beach.

"Hey," Lila calls.

"Hi," I reply. I waste no time before asking, "What is your full name?"

"Lila," she responds. "Just Lila."

"Don't you have a last name?" I ask.

"I used to have one," Lila says.

"What about a middle name?"

"I was never given one."

"What about-"

"Enough about this," Lila cuts in. "Did you mom say yes?"

"Yep, I'm starting school on Monday," I say. "My mother and I discussed it over dinner." I'm sad that I didn't find out more, but at least I tried.
