The Lucky and the Unlucky

Chapter 15

So I hadn't written any commentary for this chapter when I wrote it so this is just me giving the story some final touches and i can't wait to publish it

The whole day was incredibly odd for Alya and Nino. They observed their two best friend's behavior around each other. Adrien for one had started cracking jokes and puns, something that had never happened before. But Marinette had the most radical change, the way she teased and scolded Adrien when he made his puns, how she was so confident around him that she had stopped stuttering. It was like they were two different people.

They all sat down at their lunch table like they usually did every day when Alya brought it up "Are you guys not telling us something?" she randomly asked as the two were eating.

Marinette's eyes widened and Adrien almost chocked on his apple (which was all he was allowed to eat). "W-what do you mean Alya?" asked Marinette as her best friend raised an eyebrow at their reaction.

"I mean you aren't stuttering while talking to Adrien" she accused while pointing her finger towards the bluenette "and you are in a really good mood and making jokes" she finished pointing to Adrien.

He cleared his throat "Well it's a beautiful day?" he attempted as Marinette mentally facepalmed herself. "Nothing's different Alya, we just got to know each other better during the book report, that's all". The brunette was about to question them further but suddenly the akuma alarm went off, pushing everyone to evacuate.

They were both relived to get Alya off their backs, but it was short lived as they knew they had a job to do. Alya looked over to Marinette that mouthed back to take Nino to safety. The brunette pointed to Adrien in confusion but the girl shook her head, indicating that she would take care of him.

The group separated as the two girls nodded. First Alya and Nino went towards the exit, then as the cafeteria was emptying Adrien brought Marinette into the school kitchens who were already empty.

"Ready M'lady?" he asked as he checked the area for any cameras or people. She grinned "Of course Chaton", finished his recognition he took the girl's hand as they both pronounced out their transformation words.

Chat Noir and Ladybug had made their way out of the kitchens and onto the roof for a better visual of the villan. "Did you really have to steal a snack before battle?" asked the superheroine as the boy munched on a sweet and smiled "I'm not stealing, I'm borrowing".

Ladybug rolled her eyes and smiled at the boy, but quickly concentrated on her mission. "Do you see the villan?" she asked as she jumped around the building looking for their enemy. "Not really, maybe it was a false alarm?" attempted the cat hero but Ladybug shook her head denying his theory.

As they did a quick recognition of the area and found nothing the superheroine decided to opt for another plan, this was an extremely abnormal situation and it was making her uncomfortable. "Okay Chat I think it's best to separate, when we find the villain we'll call each other ok?" but he was quick to disagree "No Princess, we don't even know what this person's powers are, plus I don't want to put you in danger". His sweet words thought did not reach Ladybug in a positive manner "Adr-Chat you can't let your feelings in the way of our job, we have to pretend to not know our identities and work like we used-".

"Careful M'lady!" he exclaimed interrupting her as he used his body as a shield for the girl. The both landed on the ground with a thud, Ladybug still confused. "Chat are you okay?" she asked as she tried to lift him, but in response she heard an echoing laughter. As soon as she was able to move her partner to the side she was met with a pair of gold eyes staring down at her. The woman was tall and wore a wine purple ballroom dress accompanied by matching lace gloves that reached her elbows, around her neck was a silver necklace with a small rose quartz crystal attached to it. Her skin was dark and her sharp face was framed by long dark curly hair.

"I'm terribly sorry for having immobilized your little pet, but as you know, I need your miraculous" Ladybug looked over to the boy laying  by her side and as the color drained out of her face she realized a terrible truth, he was completely still as in his chest wasn't rising or falling. 

"Oh don't worry, soon you'll end up just the same" smirked the villain as she pointed at the girl with a long wooden scepter with a gold tip at the top. She couldn't think, she only heard a strong pounding in her head, seeing him so lifeless had completely immobilized her.

A spark of light caught her eye, and she quickly realized it was coming from the villain's scepter. She was able to flip back and not even a second later there was a black mark where she had sat. "Come on Ladybug don't make this hard for me, I can't run in heels" she said laughing as she lifted her dress and showed off a pair of black leather boots.

The girl remained silent, the way she was just taunting her was getting on her nerves, especially with Chat laying near by without breathing. She quickly analyzed the villain, the akuma could be hiding anywhere, from under her dress to her scepter. She had no intention to wait around, she was going to end this now.

Reluctantly she looked over at Chat, if she wanted to call out her Lucky Charm she had to find a safe space and that meant she had to take him to safety as well. She dove towards the boy and swung him over her shoulders, luckily her powers included super strength or she would have never been able to pick up Adrien so easily.

The woman clearly had not expected this move as she was slow to catch up, which gave Ladybug just enough time to enter the school building without her noticing.

She slid down against a wall in the janitor's closet, Chat still by her side unconscious. She quickly pulled out her bug phone, trying to ignore the tears of panic rolling off her cheeks.

Thankfully Alya immediately answered "All ok Ladybug?" she whispered into the phone, worry clearly in her voice. Marinette took a deep breath, but her voice still cracked as she talked "Alya I'm in the janitor's closet on the first floor, at school, Chat he's-" she looked over at her partner, perfectly still "-he's unconscious, I need you to take care of him, can you come?".

She could hear Alya mumble a quick excuse to Nino "I'm gonna be there in two minutes, it's gonna be okay Mari, now go save us". She slowly hung up the phone as more tears rolled down her face. She placed Chat in a comfortable position and lightly kissed his forehead "I'll save you Chaton".

She dried her eyes and made her way out onto the street.
