The palms of my hands were clammy as I sat in the limo right beside Tyler. Despite looking amazing, I couldn't help but feel nervous. I hadn't been at an event like this one ever since my parents passed away. I was used to having them by my side at these things.
My outfit choice wasn't exactly a ''blend in with the crowd'' type either, which made me more nervous about making an appearance at this Ball. I chose a sleek, copper, silk dress. The dress hugged my body perfectly, accentuating every curve I was incredibly proud of. But I couldn't help but feel anxious, anyway. I knew what these people thought of me. And I knew I wasn't one to keep my mouth shut if I was offended.
''Are you okay?''
I ignored him, taking deep breaths to calm my nerves as we neared Tyler's huge house. House? More like an actual mansion. It was so obnoxiously huge, even I was taken by surprise. And that's saying something...
''Scar?'' He placed his soft hand on top of mine, squeezing lightly. ''I know you're worried, but it'll be okay. We have to put on our best show tonight'' He reminded me.
He was right. This night had to be perfect. Not just for me, but for him too. His whole future was on the line, as dumb as it sounded. And I felt obligated to help him out, just because it was the right thing to do. I would do it even if I didn't have anything to get out of it.
''I'm just a little nervous. I haven't been to one of these since...'' I tailed off, clearing my throat.
''I get it'' He saved me the effort to explain myself.
Who was I kidding? This town's entire elite population knew exactly what happened. I was going to be under a direct spotlight tonight, and I knew it.
''I just need a drink and I'll be fine'' I sighed, biting my lip.
''Oh, trust me, you and I both!'' He joked, making me smile.
Over the days, leading up to the Ball, we had bonded greatly. The golden boy was definitely starting to grow on me. And I wasn't even mad about it. He understood me. He wasn't some douchebag, he was a friend. A true friend. And I appreciated his support.
''Thanks, Ty'' I smiled at him, taking his hand in mine.
''For what?'' He asked, ignoring the driver who held the door open for us.
''For being a good person, I guess'' I shrugged, glancing toward the house with dread.
''Well, I'm flattered. But we need to get our asses in there before my father flips out before anything even goes down'' He laughed, squeezing my hand.
I rolled my eyes but motioned for him to get out.

We stood next to Tyler's parents, making small talk about our relationship and how we met. His parents were okay, I guess. His mother was extremely sweet and caring, despite being a total doormat for the father. And the father, well, he was something alright. His constant glares toward Tyler and his wife threw me off, as soon as I spotted it happen.
