My first fall

Most people have very specific memories in the early stages of life. Wether it be with your family, playing with friends or going to school.

Mine were a bit different than that, I remember it extremely vividly, the tank, the muffled sounds of the outside world and the blurred figures outside the tank. In short I spent the better part of 16 years in the tank. Which might sound strange to some but put it this way, I wasn't born, I was grown in this tank.

At the time in my perspective this was a completely normal life and I assumed everyone had this exact same experience. Floating in a tank, wired at every angle, feeding tube down my throat. It might also be considered strange that I didn't ever need oxygen. That was the idea I suppose, to make a weapon who couldn't perish under circumstances that would kill normal mortals.

It was October 6th 1997 at some point before 10:37 am my body clock had just measured at 16 years old. When I was woken that day by the rumbling sound and the water level of the tank was draining, I honestly thought the world was ending and let's be honest if your daily life was the same for your 16 years of existence you'd think the end was coming.

I barely knew the concept of life and was never introduced to the concept of death and honestly this was the first time I became familiar with the idea of being close to death.

The water level had sunk below my eyes and I could see the water droplets scattered across the sides of my tank and felt my skin prickle, this was my first time experiencing air it was quite overwhelming to say the least. Once the water sunk below my lips the air I had breathed felt heavier in comparison.

Once the water had drained out of existence I became aware of another normal feature of life, gravity. For many years I had floated in the water and now I felt the pull of the ground below my feet.

I looked down at myself with my pale, pruned and naked skin. I then looked up at the glass in front of me and my eyes began to adjust to fact there were multiple figures in front of me with white material covering their naked bodies.

I then pressed my hand on the glass and it moved making me tumble onto the outside my tank. It felt strange being able to reach further outside my tank suddenly everything was so much more stretched and wide.

The figures in white material began to surround me and pull the wires out of me and once my feeding tube was pulled out my throat yellow liquid erupted from my mouth all over the floor. My stomach was in pain, my throat burned and my head was spinning.

I heard sounds coming their lips and there was a pressure on my back as one of them pinned me down. My chin was jerked up and I saw a black metal object coming towards my left eye and it was forced onto my face.

And then I screamed.

I felt like thousands of needles were penetrating my skin all the way down through my skull and scraping against my brain.

"Any second and the craft inhibitor will provide subject 3250 with the necessary information a natural born human being will have gained in a lifespan like hers,"

The pain lowered to a subtle sting and I opened my eyes and realised my left eye suddenly had words scrolling across it.

Systems booting up

After a few seconds I suddenly understood the world around me like it was pouring into my head, like a waterfall crashing knowledge into my brain.

I looked at all the people in their lab coats feeling my eye water.

I uttered the first words to ever leave my lips "What have you done to me-"

I was cut off when the device they referred to as the craft inhibitor was sending a violent electric shock through my body causing me to let out another gut wrenching scream at the pain lashing at my body.

"Please know subject 3250, that the purpose of the craft inhibitor is to provide you knowledge of any necessary information that could be seen as useful as a soldier, but also the greatest fault of a soldier is emotion so this device disciplines you when you decide to feel anything,"

I slowed my breath down touching the craft inhibitor that was completely latched onto my face.

"Take her to be clothed,"

I was dragged by my arms feeling the sting of my knees scraping on the concrete floor and the craft inhibitor electrocuted me once more.

I felt the fear build it up and the electrocutions were delivered one after the other all the way down the corridor.

"Control yourself you stupid girl," one of the lab coats hissed as he threw me into a room.

I was pulled out the room wearing a bulletproof vest, black leggings and combat boots. They had tied my long black hair into a long braid and I had caught sight of myself in a mirror a red light was glowing where my eye should have been and the black device covered a portion of my face concealing my skin from view.

They had bought me back to the tank and strapped me in "You must gradually adapt to the world subject 3250 and therefore you must remain in this chamber every night before you sleep,"

They closed the door and I struggled in the straps and another zap shot through me.
The water level began to rise and the natural new found human logic of drowning began to creep in my mind. If the craft inhibitor was a person who had a thing about torturing someone they must have been laughing at me with shock after shock being transferred.

Once the water covered my face I realised I could still breathe. It was simply the case of the air being heavier. Once the tank was full I saw the blur of the lab coats leaving the room and I let out a breath watching the bubbles rise in front of my face.

I began to close my eyes but then head the distant sound of footsteps and I opened my eyes and saw a dark figure enter the room. As it got closer I saw a metal arm reaching out the the glass and it rested its hands on it and I looked at its face.

There was a black mask and goggles hiding their face but I could feel them staring at me.
I looked to the metal hand on the glass and tried to move my hand but I was firmly strapped in and began to struggle. Another shock went through my head and it sparked in the water and the figure jumped back and ran out the room.
