DRACO
Draco turned his head a bit in the mirror, inspecting the collar of his suit jacket. Deep blue lined with gold. White accents. People in pureblood circles wore a lot of dark green, which he supposed they did as some sort of exercise in house pride.
Reminding everyone that Slytherin had chosen them. Most members of high society spent their time proving to each other that they were deserving of their place within it. Draco was oddly thankful that he had been ousted before he had developed those tendencies himself.
He grew out of his arrogance in his own time, or maybe he never had, but either way it was better than developing a crippling insecurity and using fake arrogance to hide it.
Maybe he had done that, too, somewhere along the line. He had hidden it so well that the specific insecurity wasn't known to him. But he felt himself getting over it lately, getting better.
Iris appeared in the mirror behind him, leaning against the door to his room. She was barefoot, her heels in her hands. Her hair was charmed, her dress was on. It was white, but not pure white. There was some yellow there, maybe, some red. Cream.
He watched her reflection for a second, then turned around.
"I look okay?" She asked.
Her face said she knew she did. She just wanted to hear him say it. Maybe this was some leftover insecurity from the way he used to speak to her. She needed to hear him affirm her before she could believe it herself. But it didn't seem that way - they were both growing.
Not everything was a manifestation of his own mistakes. He had done right by her in the end and she knew that. He saw her accepting it more everyday, accepting him more.
Fucking gorgeous. "Yeah," he said. "Were you gonna put the shoes on?"
"Doing it in the car on the way there," she said back, "they'll kill my feet and I'd rather not have to take them off while we're at Astoria's." She paused for a second, her eyes dropping to his collar. "You look nice, too, by the way. In case you were wondering."
