5 years earlier (Lucy is 12 years old)
Lucy was in her backyard of her small little worn out house, playing with her dolls. Lucy had on a dirty, smelly rag for a dress, her hair looked as if she hasn't washed it in years, and she had dirt all over her face

Lucy's family was very poor. Her mother, Layla, works as a waitress at a cafe and only gets paid $2 a day

Her father, Jude, works as a construction worker, and only gets paid $5 a day

That's barely enough for food nor bills. They lost there house almost twice due to them not paying there bills on time

Lucy would sometimes notice her parents stress, especially her mother, who has other problems to deal with as well

Jude would always come home drunk and smelling like booze, and would always hit Layla for no reason. And any money they had saved up, or any money Layla had saved up, Jude would take every drop and cent and use it all up on gambling, while in the process, giving his family more debt to pay off

Lucy would feel bad for her mom and sometimes cry cause she couldn't help her mom. To make things worse, she was born without any mana whatsoever, causing her father to call her names such as: useless, mistake, bitch, scum, and wretch

Which caused Lucy to think to herself

'Is it my fault he's like this. If I was born with powers, would things be different'

She would cry herself to sleep thinking it was her fault her father ended up the way he is now

Lucy mother was at work, and requested for over time so she could hopefully get extra payment for it, leaving Lucy by herself until her father comes back from work

'I hope he doesn't come home drunk. If mother is doing over time, that leaves me and him, and who knows what he'll do'

Lucy looked back at the book she was reading

'I hope nothing bad happens'

She clenched her fist with fear and sadness on full display in her eyes

Lucy was in her room reading a book, that is until she heard the front door open
