Cypher is an interesting character. He tends to be selfish while not having selfish thoughts. He "sees the angles" and is able to decide the best course of action that will lead to the best result without imagining what ghat will mean for others. He is less sympathetic to other people because he grew up mostly caring for himself and trying to grown up too fast because his older sister was, respectfully, a complete wreck. Matthew spent all his time trying to make sure Rune got the guidance she needed.
Cypher makes decisions that would best help everyone but hose decisions aren't always perceived as helpful. His biggest craving is his father to be proud of him. His papa, Karma, tried his best but he didn't understand a lot of what Cypher was thinking.
Cypher is absolutely brilliant but his brilliance comes with a price. He communicates better with body language and sometimes words fail him. He is very picky about sensory things and he hates the cold.
Cypher genuinely couldn't believe his father would hug him when he imagined he failed. He thought it was a trick. After Ruins, Matthew and Cypher's relationship improved.
