Victoria

"I never said I was the only one who lived here," Rosalie corrected, watching as Victoria stood protectively in front of the girl. "You made that assumption yourself."

A soft hiss was released as the sounds of the car came closer. Taking out Rosalie would be no problem, dealing with those in the car would be more difficult and traveling with Bella in her hards would only hold her back.

Victoria was stuck.

"Alright," Rosalie started, "I'll go talk to them. You just stay here and don't move, okay?"

It was quite obvious that Rosalie didn't receive a response. Victoria's careful eyes followed her as Rosalie backed out the room. When she was out of eyesight, Victoria rushed back to Bella and lightly pressed her lips on her cheek.

"You're going to be fine."

Meanwhile outside, Carlisle and his mate Esme just stepped out the car when they were greeted by Rosalie.

"Hello, Rose," he said. "Did you find that vampire from the hospital?"

"I—" she broke off, sparring a glance back at the house. "Yeah...I found her. With an injured human. Both of them are inside."

"They're inside, Rosalie," Esme questioned. "What—"

Before she could continue, Rosalie politely stopped her. "Please listen, Esme. Apparently, it's the same human that's been missing the last few months. But...she has bite marks on her."

"Yet, she's still a human?" Carlisle asked. "And the vampire with her still wants her alive?"

"Victoria wasn't the cause of them. They're...mates." Rosalie continued, ignoring their stunned silence. "She already doesn't trust me, Carlisle so can you talk some sense into her?"

Carlisle sighed before turning to Esme. He urged her to stay by the car until the other returned and went upstairs with Rosalie. A sleeping brunette and a vampire with fiery hair greeting him at the other side of the door.

"I guess this would be a good reason to steal medical supplies from a hospital," Carlisle joke. He merely received an eye roll from Rosalie and nothing from Victoria. "Carlisle Cullen."

"Victoria," she introduced. "That's Bella." From what she could gather, this was the leader of this coven. And from what she heard outside, there was a lot of them.

She would have to be careful.

"Thank you for letting Bella rest here. It's very kind of you."

"Please, I'm a doctor," he answered, looking over Rosalie's work. "It's my nature to help people."

A doctor? She thought. Then that's when she realized that he shared the same yellow eyes as the other blonde. These must be the other animal drinkers Tanya was going on about.

"She seems to be sleeping off her infection. Bella should be waking soon."

A sigh of relief was heard from Victoria. Her thumb lightly rubbed Bella's cheek, watching the girl carefully.

Out of her almost one hundred years of living, Victoria has seen multiple vampire mates and married humans living happily together without any care in the world. As a human, she never experienced that type of love.

But now that she had it, she'd be crazy to let Bella out of her sight.

Except...it has been a while since she has fed.

The dryness in her throat was becoming irritable, and it didn't help fresh blood was at her disposal less than two feet away from her.

"I need to leave for a few hours," Victoria said. Though her eyes were on Bella, both the Cullens knew she was talking to Rosalie. "I'll be back, hopefully before she wakes."

When she left the room, Carlisle and Rosalie shared a look. They knew what she was actually going to do and hoped she wasn't going to stay in the small town of Forks.

The vampire removed his lips from the bleeding wrists hanging in front of him. His fangs and mouth dripped with blood and he licked them clean as well as the wound. The last thing he wanted was to accidentally change her into a vampire because he didn't suck all the venom out.

Although the thrill of that happening, and having the ability to kill her later was addicting.

Bella released little whimpers, her sobs already gone dry hours ago.

At this moment, this was month three of meeting James at the bar. He found her again in the span of a week somewhere in Oregon. She never had a destination in mind, just to get as far away from James as she could.

"Please, James," Bella whispered, tears slipping from her eyes. Her wrist was numb yet the rest of her body was sore. From running too much or James, she wasn't sure. She just wanted it to stop. "Just...just kill me, p-please."

A fake pout coated his face. "Now why would I do that, little Bella?" He tilted her head up, meeting her tearing brown eyes. "You're my greatest prey I've had in the last fifty years. I'm not letting you go any time soon."
