"What were you thinking?? You were flying away from hellfire and got hit by something hot in your back, then noticed water literally evaporating from your skin and feeling like you had a fever for the whole day, and you didn't think of telling me???"
Lucifer paced up and down in his apartment, his wings that now had a dark blue colour sweeped behind him. An expensive looking vase, which most museums would have killed for, had already been knocked over by them.
"I didn't think it would turn out like... this. I wanted to tell you when we got back. Which actually kinda just happened, sooo... I might have been hit by hellfire." I scratched my neck.
"Aaannd used it to defend myself from that guy in the bar...""You took her to the bar???" Lucifer now yelled at Ryder. "You know exactly that your kind doesn't like my kind that much. Like you saw today."
He ran his hands through his hair that gleamed like gold in the sunlight coming in through the window.
"Take off your wing armour, I'll have a look at it," he said after a while.
I turned my back to him. He and Ryder drew a sharp breath when I made the armour disappear.
"What is it? Is it that bad?"
"I think it's better if you see for yourself."
With a snap of his fingers, Lucifer made a mirror appear so I could comfortably see my back. I wish I hadn't seen it.Right where the wings grew out of my back, the skin was rough and grey, like the bark of an ancient tree. The once red feathers around it were grey as well, the ones closest to my back disintegrated when I shifted the wings.
"And you said that happened yesterday?", Ryder asked quietly.
I nodded. "It didn't even hurt that much, at least not like the time when they were burned off. I just fell out of the air, but I wasn't unconcious or anything."
"Your immortality. If you had been fully mortal when it happened, you would have burned."
"I think evaporated is the better word for that."
Lucifer and I shot a glare at Ryder.
"I'm just saying", he shrugged. "Anyway, you'll need to gain control over it. Hellfire is one of the most dangerous things in existance, if anything goes wrong..." He didn't finish his sentence. He didn't have to.
"There are some demons who already have similar powers, maybe they can help you. I'll have them take care of you and teach you to control it."

The place Lucifer had taken me took my breath away.
A mountain range with burning ravines and valleys extended ahead of us, although the fire was visible from even further away, lighting up the sky with its red and yellow glow. I could smell the smoke and something metallic.
Drops of sweat started to form on my forehead as we flew deeper into the mountains. Something in my chest tugged at me, maybe a warning or maybe something that wanted to burst free. I clenched my fists.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. It's just really hot in here. Where are these demons you mentioned?"
"There." He pointed to the side of a mountain. I hadn't noticed the dark walls that clung to the stone, disappearing and resurfacing in it.
"They train their fire in there, so if someone loses control it doesn't cause a lot of damage. I told them you were coming, just go in there and ask for Ilara."
