Y/N POV:
*next day back at UA*

"Huh?? Class B..what are they all doing here?"
"You'll be training alongside each other today. A member from class A will be partnered with a student in class B. Mr.Vlad and I will be choosing your partners. Don't request to switch," Aizawa sighed
We all started to get sorted into our pairs
"L/n you're with Monoma for this exercise,"
"'Kay who's that?"
"There really is no hope for your class...a pity. Though I guess ignorance is the theme when it comes to class A," the blonde guy from the sports festival, I remember him
I'm afraid Mr. Aizawa paired us up because of our quirks. Why would he have done that when this could expose something I asked him to keep secret?
"Well I was able to remember the names of some of your other classmates," I shrugged
"Right, anyway let's not get off on the wrong foot just yet L/n,"

"Sure okay. We can just start then," I unintentionally sounded bored and aloof because of how anxious I was to fight him.

KATSUKI'S POV:

"Kirishima with Kaibara, Ashido with Bondo, Tsubaraba with Aoyama, Shishida with Sato," Aizawa neared the end of the list of groups him and Vlad made
"Midoriya with Shoda, then last we have Kawakami with Bakugo,"
You gotta be kidding me I could pop a vein right now!
I'll get to kick his ass but on the other hand I'll have to look at his damn face. Of all the people in the world of course he had to be y/n's childhood friend
"Ohh Bakugo! What a delight, I heard you can really get brutal,"
"What are you some kind of masochist?"
"Ha. Not at all, it's just kind of surprising for a guy with a pretty delicate face like that,"
"What!? That's funny coming from you...and don't call me delicate! Or pretty,"

The teachers clearly made the pairs based on our quirks somehow but something's been bothering me. Why stick y/n with Monoma? All the other pairs seem pretty obvious. Her power is pretty much a standard flashy emitter type with long range while his is just a copycat that requires him to touch his opponent first. If you ask me it's as bad a match up as me and Uraraka

Y/N POV:

If I fight him off and he makes attempts to touch me it will be just like fending off a quirkless person. He'll never reach me if I don't let him. However fighting him at anything less than my best will fan his pride. The best thing I can do is bite the bullet and let him touch me before we start. There are some powers he's not able to copy right?
"Before we begin Monoma," I reached out to shake his hand
"I'm not one to turn down a leg up for prides sake. Unlike that dog Bakugo," he scoffed and shook my hand.
He unexpectedly yanked me forward by my hand knocking me off balance and used the momentum to get over me and behind. I fell and recovered as quickly as possible. By the time I got back up Monoma made some distance between us and readied his arms to use Blue flare. I knew that copying blue flare was probably the least likely outcome. No doubt Mr Aizawa was keeping a close watch.
"Awe man. It's a blank, but why—," Monoma sounded frustrated and I was just relieved
Until only a moment later. His eyes looked sort of blank and he cried out in agony clutching his head. His scream was painful and piercing so it quickly caught everyone's attention. I ran over to Monoma hoping that I could comfort him in some way. I rushed to cradle his head and put pressure on his ears. Knowing that ultimately it was me causing him all this pain felt terrible. Aizawa erased his quirk to stop it and the boy was faint
"L/n take him to recovery girl to rest,"I was ordered
"Yes sir,"
"L/n.." Monoma said as I supported him walking, "What was that? I expected it to activate in my arms or hands but there was nothing. Just pain and pressure and only in my head. It's odd,"
"I'm sorry," I felt guilty. My quirk is in my brain, not my arms. But telling him that would leave me with some explaining to do
"Tuh. You're sorry? What a strange thing to say,"
