After pencils slight gay panic at the mall, her and match bought the outfits they had picked out and went their separate ways, promising to meet up before school tomorrow. And if she was being honest, pencil was sort of glad. She might have not lasted much longer watching her long-time crush try on beautiful ball gowns fit for a princess. Of course, the dresses were perfect for match. After all, match was a princess. In pencils opinion at least.

Apparently, match needed to check on some things at her dads office, so pencil was walking home alone. She had walked this route many times, and she knew it like the back of her hand. Although, something about the walk felt different. But it takes her less than a minute to realize it's because match wasn't with her. She knew it was a stupid thing to say but, everything just felt off without match.

The tall oak trees she never paid much attention to were more bold. They stood tall, looming over pencil blocking the sky from sight, darkening her path. Probably. Either that or it's later than she thought.

And it was quiet. Really quiet. All pencil could really hear were the faint but pleasant sounds of birds chirping in the distance, along with the soft crunch following her every step as she strolled across the gravel trail.

She walked this path almost every day and yet, she never really noticed the eerie feeling that washed over her every step she took.

Pencil decided she needed a distraction, and fast. She pulled out her phone dialling match's number, silently begging her to pick up. Pencil was overjoyed, to say the least, when she heard match's soft voice on the other end of the line.

"Hi pencil!!"

Pencil gave herself a second to breathe before responding, bring the phone to rest gently against the side of her head. "Hiya match!!"

Pencil could hear the loud shuffling of match getting comfortable, before match asked, "why'd you call? Are you home all ready?"

Pencil scoffed. "Not even close, I might be slightly more than halfway home."

"Okie dokie!!" Match said happily, and pencil smiled, forcing herself to forget about the creepy forest that surrounded her in every direction, making escape impossible.

Match cleared her throat. "Sooo... pencil!" Pencil rolled her eyes. She had a feeling she knew what match was going to say next. "Anything happening recently with your soulmate?"

Pencil groaned. Bullseye.

"Come on pencil! I don't understand why your so hesitant about the idea of soulmates, but you must be at least a bit curious who she is right?"

She wasn't going to lie, pencil was quite curious. But she had also found herself with another thing to worry about with soulmates. She didn't really trust the universe very much, and there was a chance her soulmate might not even be a girl. That would suck. Trying to explain to your straight guy soulmate that you were a lesbian.

That was an awkward conversation pencil was hoping she'd never have.

"Yeah I guess" pencil said flatly. "But they haven't written back yet, so maybe they're not 18 yet?"

"That would make sense"

"While we're sort of on the subject of that," pencil started. "Are you excited for your 18th birthday?" Pencil asked trying to change the subject.

"YESSS" match squealed, and pencil held the phone away from her ear not wanting to go deaf.

"I really wish you could be at my party though.." Match said, obviously trying to keep her voice from faltering, though she failed quite miserably.
