I died a bit writing this ;-;

I'm so stupid. I'm so stupid. I'm so stupid. Pencil repeatedly thought to herself, walking slowly with her head down. Why on earth did I ever think Match could like someone like me?

Pencil opted to take the long way home, knowing that her path would've crossed with Match's if she had decided otherwise. And honestly? She didn't really feel like facing Match at the moment. Every time Pencil replayed the scene in her head, the worse she felt. It definitely wasn't Match's fault in any way, but Pencil definitely played it off like she had done something wrong. But she didn't. It was Pencil's fault entirely.

Pencil had asked who she liked.

And Match gave her an honest answer.

Pencil didn't know what she thought was going to happen. Maybe Match would've said something along the lines of: "I like you Pencil" and Pencil would return the feelings. Then they would walk through the forest hand in hand smiling the entire time. It was sappy sure, but it would've been the most incredible thing that's happened to her. But alas, Match liked someone else.

And that someone was Bubble.

Bubble.

Sure, it kind of made sense. After all, when Pencil was suspended for breaking into the lockers of her classmates (she was just trying to find her homework, which some definitely stole by the way) Match and Bubble did spend a lot of time together, but Pencil didn't feel like she was gone that long. But she was gone long enough for her best friend and crush to fall for Bubble.

Pencil laughed coldly, turning down the sidewalk and ignoring everyone she "accidentally" bumped into.

Pencil knew she was just jealous, but she couldn't help it. All she could do now was encourage Match with her new crush.

Wait, was it a new crush? How long had she liked Bubble?

Pencil groaned. This was getting way too complicated for her liking. She just needed to focus. Match liked Bubble, and Pencil would support her no matter what.

Pencil let out a shaky sigh. This was going to be impossible.

Taking her mind off Match entirely, Pencil took out the pen she kept handy in her pocket, and scrawled a basic, what are you up to? On her arm, and it took mere seconds for writing to be returned. In all honesty, I'm sitting on my couch eating cookies. Pencil chuckled. Her soulmate kind of reminded her of Match.

Wait nope. Pencil stop. You're trying not to think about Match right now. Pencil thought, eyeing her arm, trying to come up with at least a slightly thoughtful reply, and after a couple seconds, she wrote back, Luckyyyy. I'm walking around the middle of nowhere trying 2 remember where I live.

Which was in fact true. She must've taken a wrong turn somewhere, because Pencil didn't recognize this neighbourhood one bit. It's slightly her fault though, after all, she decided to take the long way home. Specifically the one she knew barely anything about. Guess you can add that to her list of mistakes.

Pencil sighed. Match must already be home right now- she started in her thoughts, but stopped when she realized what she was doing.

"I cant believe this." Pencil plopped down a benched, oddly placed if you ask her. It was nestled right between two different shops, both of which looked weirdly similar. "Why can't I get her out of my head?" Pencil leaned back on the bench and looked up at the sky. The bright, sunny, yet cold day had been erased, instead replaced with dark gray clouds.

Even the weather wasn't on her side. Great. She thought, as the wind picked up speed. Match still has my hoodie. And as much as Pencil would try to downplay that as much as possible, it didn't change the fact that Match wore her hoodie. She found herself wondering if Match would've taken it off the second she got home, or maybe keep it on for a bit.

"Gee Pencil now you sound crazy. Almost like you've fallen head over heels for this person." She mumbled to herself once again, letting out something of a bitter chuckle.

However, before Pencil could continue insulting herself, she felt a familiar feeling on her arm. And sure enough, when she checked, her forearm was covered with neat, loopy writing.

Well that's not good! We should probably stop talking rn then, I don't want to distract you at all.

Pencil sighed, she supposed they were right. Kay fineeee. Ttyl then.

Ttys!

"Now... time to find my house." Pencil surveyed her surroundings. "If I'm even in the same country anymore."

Father along in her walk, (she was finally starting to recognize some of her surroundings. At least she didn't accidentally wander off into Japan) her phone buzzed, and normally, sure, Pencil would've checked. But Pencil was just in a terrible mood and didn't feel like communicating at the moment. However, one notification turned into two, and eventually she was certain it would vibrate out of her pocket and fall and die on the ground.

She was tempted to check sure, no one ever texted her this much other than Match.

Wait.

Pencil immediately whipped out her phone, only to be disappointed.

Less than disappointed actually. Bubble was texting her.

Pencil skimmed through the texts only to find herself even more disappointed (if that was even possible). All Bubble was asking was whether or not she was going to the party.

Pencil wanted to respond and get it over with.

She wanted to go home, snuggle with her cat and sleep.

She wanted to move on.

But alas, she couldn't do any of these things. The last one especially.

Pencil turned her attention back to her phone. Was she going to the dance? Match would probably be there, which was both good and bad, for obvious reasons. So she just told the truth. Idk. She responded, then kept walking. This time determined to ignore all notifications sent her way. She wanted to get home and sleep until the next ice age.

Speaking of ice age, she never caught her soulmates name.

Okay, so that wasn't in any way related, but Pencil was quite curious. What it someone she knew? She'd have to wait until she got home, but she definitely needed to remember to ask. It felt weird referring to them as "soulmate" when she was pretty sure Match was her soulmate.

There. She did it again.

Tears welled up in her eye and she did her best to hold them back.

Match.

Her best friend.

Her crush.

The person she had fallen so very hard for.

The person who would never love Pencil as much as she loved her.

"T-this is stupid." She stuttered, trying to keep her breathing under control.

Maybe she needed time away from Match. After all, Match was causing all this in the first place.

Yeah... that's what I'll do. Just avoid her for a bit... Pencil thought hopefully.

"Yeah..."
