LOS ANGELES

"A... A... A... Excellent," Luke Hobbs says as he goes through Samantha's, his daughter's, homework assignment grades while they sit in a diner for breakfast while waiting on Samantha's aunt. "Oh, and by the way, your Old Man and the Sea report?" Samantha nods as she remembers it. "You did so good. It was awesome."

"Thanks, Dad," Samantha says with a smile on her face as they fist bump.

"Yes. What's that?" Hobbs says as he notices what Samantha had been working on.

"Um, it's a social studies assignment," Samantha says as she picks it up to hand to her father. "It's a family tree. It's just a sketch."

"Oh, yeah!" Hobbs says as he looks at the sketch of a tree with four leaves on it. One leaf contains Samantha's name, one with her Aunt's name, and one has his name in it but the fourth leaf has a question mark in it. "That's our family tree right there, it's, uh, it's... super easy to read and very clear, yeah."

"But... I was going to use this," Samantha says as she pulls out an old picture, handing it to her father. "I found it in the garage drawer. That's you, isn't it? Who's Jonah? I-Is that your brother?"

"Yup, that's my brother," Hobbs says with a sigh as the memories of the past come back to him.

"Why don't you ever talk about Samoa? Did something happen?" Samantha questions as Hobbs looks away from the picture to see his sister standing a few feet away in order to give him a chance to handle the questions.

"In life, things happen. You may not want them to, but they do," Hobbs answers her as he tries to explain the situation without giving any details. "You just gotta do your best and move on. The fact of the matter is, I'm your family. I'm your people, me."

"I take that as an insult," Skylar says as she sits next to her niece, who looks up at her in shock because she did not know that Skylar was going to be there. "I'm your family and your people too."

"And you're a whole lot," Samantha teases her aunt with a smile on her face.

"Oh, I am a whole lot," Skylar sarcastically agrees with her as she tickles her before the waitresses begin bringing their food out. "Look at this, I have perfect timing."

"Oh, no, this is for the mini. Thank you so much," Hobbs says as a waitress goes to hand him a plate with a small stack of pancakes on it.

"Cheat day?" A waitress asks as she sets down a plate with a dozen pancakes on it.

"Cheat day, yeah! Thank you so much," Hobbs says with a smile, causing Skylar to shake her head at her brother before they begin to eat.

Hobbs is eating the last of his pancakes while Samantha works on her homework with the help of Skylar.

"Lucas Rebecca Hobbs," A man says as he walks over to them, causing Hobbs to freeze mid bite. "I haven't seen you in forever."

"Rebecca?" Samantha asks as she looks at her father confused, causing Hobbs to shake his head in a don't ask manner.

"Do you even age? How long has it been?" The man questions as he reaches the booth.

"Six months," Hobbs answers him with a sigh as he drops his fork onto his plate.

"Time flies," The man says with a smile while Skylar looks from her brother to the man before realizing who the man is.

"When we're apart," Hobbs retorts with an eye roll while Skylar looks at Agent Victor Locke in shock.

"What is your skincare regimen? Because you look like a young Shirley Temple," Locke randomly asks as he motions for Skylar and Samantha to scoot over since they are in a rounded booth. "Go, go, go, go, go."

"Who is this guy?" Samantha asks confused as she sits beside her father.

"Well, this guy is, uh, is Locke. And he works for the CIA," Skylar explains as she waves at Locke with a smirk on her face.

"Skylar Hobbs as I live and breath," Locke says with a big smile on his face before winking at her. "Still as beautiful as the day we met."

"Flattery will get you no where because I am taken," Skylar tells him as she lightly shakes her head, causing Locke to put his hands up in surrender.

"Well, you both must be wondering why I called me here," Locke says with a smug smile as he drops his hands.

"Not really," Hobbs says with a shake of his head while Samantha says, "Doesn't make sense."

"Your dad, Aunt, and I are old friends," Locke explains as he looks over at Samantha while changing the subject.

"We're not old friends," Hobbs corrects while shaking his head again.

"Actually, we're, um, we're best friends," Locke says with a nod as he pulls a necklace out from under his shirt. "Here's the half heart."

"I don't know what that is," Hobbs says as he glances over at his daughter.

"We got some ink together," Locke says as he looks at Samantha as well.

"We did not get ink together," Hobbs argues as he tries to look everywhere but at Locke.

"Oh, we didn't?" Locke asks as he flips his tie over his shoulder while Skylar tries to hold back a laugh from seeing how uncomfortable her brother is.

"No, we did not," Hobbs answers as he shakes his head.

"Oh, interesting. Well, I seem to remember getting a little something like this..." Locke explains as he unbuttons his shirt to show the same tattoo as Hobbs'. "At one point on my body."

"Jesus," Hobbs says as he pulls his shirt down to look at his own tattoo.

"Christ, I miss our playful banter," Locke says with a smile, causing Skylar to finally let a laugh slip.

"You have one minute to tell me what you want before I knock one of your lungs loose," Hobbs tells him with a glare before sending a glare at his sister.
