He wasn't planning to leave for the office today or else he would have been out already, looking irresistibly sexy in one of his fancy suits, fitting him so damn perfectly. Instead, he is here, on a day when I have nothing or everything to lose.

As I see him closing the distance between us, my breathing fails me.

I know he's coming toward me, and I feel my blood drained, frozen on the bed but with sharp instincts while I follow him with the glare of my eyes to predict his next move.

I used to be afraid that one day he would hit me with a snap of his hand so fast that I wouldn't have the time to save my life, but in reality, my fear was about him breaking down the walls I had been building around my heart, making me surrender instead of standing strong in front of him, and not crumble.

The look in his eyes was always carrying anger, but his touches were so loving, and at some point, I got lost. I didn't know anymore which one was the real Lucas, the one in his eyes or the one in his touches.

He stares at me when he is next to my bed, tall and straight, as straight and emotionless as his face is. His blue eyes pierce into mine for a few moments while my eyes widen in awe.

I haven't seen him staring at me for that long since... never.

I try to figure out the reason for his stare into the depth of his blue eyes which surprisingly don't hide anymore like they used to, but there is nothing.

Blank. Dry. Empty.

He raises his hand toward me, tilting his head, and with his fingers, he sweeps a few strands of hair off my face.

I inhale sharply, closing my eyes and squeezing them tight. My muscles are hard like stone, and I freeze, waiting for him to either fetch me and feast himself from my weakened self or just turn around and leave, any of the options hurting more than the other.

"What did you hide in there?" I hear him saying.

"Nothing!" I rush to reply, hoping it will be enough.

"Becca, you better tell me before I find out myself."

I could never lie, never pretend, never be someone I was not, especially with Lucas, and this moment is no exception.

Tears fall down my temples, my lips are trembling, and I know it's not the proper moment, but I inhale deeply the bitter scent of his cologne grained on the skin of his hand, arching my nostrils and numbing my senses.

I know what finding by himself means.

It means being locked inside the house for days, having nobody to talk to, no phone around, and no Lucas at home, only guards around the house, robots whose only job is to keep any danger outside these walls.

It means just enough to push me over a cliff.

He continues to gently brush the tips of his finger on my temples, wiping the tears away. He can easily pass for a man in love, a man who cares.
