Mer's POV
I woke up before Alex, who was going to his and Jo's loft today, and went to work early. Hayes and I had a patient who needed surgery.
I walk into the attending's lounge and see Hayes.
"Ah just the woman I was looking for." Hayes greets me, handing me a coffee. "Good morning, Dr. Grey."
"Dr. Hayes. Thanks for the coffee." I reply. "Ready for surgery?"
I see Alex walk in. "Always." Hayes leaves, smiling at me.
"Hey, I thought you were going to the loft?" I question him.
"Yeah, I was. I don't know. I'll do it later. What about you? I thought you had surgery."
"Going to it right now! See you at home." Alex leans in to kiss my cheek, but I move and our lips touch. I back away, feeling sparks or something strange. He hesitates before leaning back in for a real kiss.
"Woah, Alex!"
"Sorry. Sorry, Mer. I don't know what that was."
"Whatever." I leave the attending's lounge. I don't know what Alex was doing. We have too much history for that to make sense. I need to get to my surgery and I don't need to worry about Alex. But it was-ugh I don't know.
I walk into the OR to find Hayes already scrubbed and ready to open the patient. I grab a mask and run into the OR.
"Hayes, what the hell?" I yell. I'm not even late for the surgery, I'm early.
"You aren't needed, Grey. Leave my OR." He states. I scoff and leave the OR.
Hayes walks up to me at the nurse's station, presumably after my surgery finished.
"Thanks to you I was stuck with paperwork all morning." I tell him.
"I saw you two." Hayes says.
"Wait- who?" I reply, confused.
"Come on, Grey. Don't sound so oblivious. Karev and you hooking up in the attending's lounge?" He scoffs. "I was trusting of you two. I wanted to go out with you, but this? No, thanks." He drops his post ops. I lean down, helping him pick them up. "Meredith, I've got it!" He yells at me, in his thick Irish accent. I get up and see everyone now looking at us.
"For your information, we didn't do anything!" I scream back, walking away.
Alex's POV
After my shift ended, I went to buy flowers for her. I don't know what came over me. I didn't know I felt that way, I don't even think I do. At that moment I just wanted her close to me. Closer than we've ever been.
I hear Mer's car door close. so I walk up to the door with the flowers I bought her.
"I'm sorry, Mer. I don't know what I was thinking. Let's forget about it, please."
"Well I was fine with that until Hayes kicks me out of my OR because he's pissed you kissed me. He thought 'he could trust our friendship.' I assured him he could, he didn't seem to buy it though. We yelled at each other in front of everyone, it wasn't great."
"Mer, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to ruin your chances with McWidow."
"It's fine, Alex. I just don't understand. Our relationship has been strictly platonic and now I feel it's changed."
"It doesn't have to. I promise. I love you. Come here." I tell her, bringing her in for a hug. "Let's get drunk."
I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter. I'm really excited about the upcoming chapters. A character might be coming back. Have a great day:)
