His mouth curves up to a smirk. "I'm hoping you've contacted Nanami Kento. It'd be a shame to have a great lawyer as a friend but not even have him be instilled as your lawyer,"
Little did he know that you and Nanami were already making arrangements as he spoke.
Shigemo calls Geto over for the bill and takes out his card. Geto notices your closed eyes and folded hands in your lap, as well as catches the white watch on your wrist that he recognizes from last Friday. He thinks you haven't taken it off since.
"Should I escort you back?" Shigemo offers and you're quick to shake your head.
The last thing you want to see for tonight is Shigemo's stupid smug face with his stupid ponytail hanging over his stupid shoulders.
"I'll be waiting for a friend, so you go on ahead."
The ex-husband stands up, dusting off his suit and places a chilling hand on your shoulder.
"Good luck." He whispers mockingly and you hear his shoes click down the marble stairs, feeling the tension lift itself off your shoulders as the footsteps fade away.
The restaurant is still packed with a few of the social elites and you look rather foolish sitting by yourself. A groan escapes you as you flutter your eyes shut and you rest your forehead in your hand. It isn't long until you feel a hand on your shoulder clasp you with warmth, replacing the poisonous touch of Shigemo with comfort.
You look up and see Geto putting on his jacket.
"Ready to go?" he asks, clasping a few of its buttons up.
"Mmh," you mumble and get up from the chair, sliding your white bag over your shoulder and the two of you make your way to your car, as Geto took an Uber this morning to get to work.
"How was it?" he asks, getting into the passenger seat.
Your forehead makes contact with the steering wheel the moment you get in, making Geto laugh. The key is inserted and Geto watches as the car roars to life, with the LED lights installed inside of it illuminating the interior. As your car backs up and makes its way out of your parking spot, you turn on the radio with soft music filling the ambience.
"We're gonna be running a trial since the bitchass was too stubborn."
"Isn't that a good thing?"
"I guess," you mutter quietly as you stop at a red light. "But it's still making me nervous. I thought that after today, I'd finally be alright but nope."
The P in the word pops obnoxiously.
Geto leans back in his seat. "Nanami's probably good at his job, I wouldn't stress too much."
"I can't help but stress. Nanako's life is on the edge and if everything goes wrong then..."
Your voice falters and you can feel tears prick your eyes and your vision blurs with them but you're quick to rub them away before the street lights become fuzzy.
"Hey," Geto says softly and puts a hand on your bare thigh.
A hard swallow goes down your throat and you look at him from your side with widened eyes.
"You'll be alright, relax."
His words are laced with solace but when his large hand gently rubs your thigh, you're fighting the urge to squirm. The both of you sit in silence for a while with Geto's hand still rubbing your thigh and you find yourself entranced at the hand with his iconic silver watch that frames his hands alluringly. The way his thumb was just barely brushing the soft skin inside of your thigh made a rush of heat flow throughout your body. Small breaths escape you as your eyes are fixated on the hand.
