WHEN DAYS GONE "BYE"
sometimes the eyes can say more than the mouthTHERE WAS BLOOD EVERYWHERE — on my skin, in my hair, and on the floor — everywhere.
My chest heaved, each breath heavy and deep, as if my lungs were on fire. Every inch of my body throbbed with searing pain — my head pounded like it was being split open, my limbs felt as if they were being stabbed with hot needles, and my skin burned with every movement. But it was my wrists that hurt the most, as though they were being twisted and torn apart from the inside.
I raised my hands and stared at my wrists. Something was carved into my skin, but I couldn't decipher what it was. A guttural scream escaped me as I frantically scanned my surroundings, spotting several unconscious bodies scattered around, all lying in pools of blood.
My vision was blurred by the tears pooling in my eyes. I looked at each one of them, realizing they looked strangely familiar, but I couldn't be certain who they were.
"No, no, no!" I screamed.
"You look gorgeous in red."
I spun in circles frantically, straining to locate the source of the voice. The room was almost completely dark, with only a few flickering candles providing light.
"Where are you?!" I shouted, my eyes darting wildly around, my heart pounding erratically in my chest.
"Oh, calm down, Rose. You're going to make yourself dizzy spinning like that," he taunted.
That voice—
It sounded eerily familiar.
"Where are you?!" I demanded again.
A thud echoed behind me — someone had jumped from a height and landed right behind me. I whirled around, finally facing the voice's owner.
He was tall, pale, and thin. His face was a shadowy blur, but his eyes — oh, his eyes — were clear. They glowed a frightening red in the dark.
"W-who... who are you?" I croaked, stepping back as he moved closer. The thick, sticky blood on the floor made a squelching sound under my foot, and I nearly gagged.
"Don't come near me!" I said.
Squelch
He smiled with a mad, unsettling grin, and darkness danced in his eyes — crazed, hungry, wild. It sent a shiver of dread down my spine. My eyes flickered down to his teeth, and I recoiled in horror. They weren't normal; they were like polished ivory daggers — sharp, cruelly pointed, and glinting.
