Tensions were starting to get high between you and Lando. It was no secret that you had broken up and it was also no secret that neither of you were on talking terms. You both got more competitive against each other and that made racing even more interesting to watch but what wasn't good was the fact that you were nearly killing each other every race. Lando had tried making an effort to make up with you by trying not to flaunt his new girlfriend so much. He hadn't done as much of the talking aspect more like waving everytime you passed one another but it was a step in the right direction. He hadn't actually talked to you since the podium in Baku and that was such a long time considering it was now going onto Spa. He just wanted to talk to her, even a little hello would have been good. "Lando?" Lando snapped out of his thoughts and looked at his girlfriend. "Y-yeah? What's up?" he asked, trying to play it off. "I was just saying Y/n and Lance are looking awfully cute cuddled up together, don't they?" she asked, showing him her phone. Lando furrowed his eyebrows and had a look at the phone. Was his eyes deceiving him? No, that was them all right. A picture of them on the roof of the Aston Martin hospitality lounge cuddled up, kissing. He felt sick to his stomach that he let his pride get in the way and now? Now he just let the love of his life go off and find someone new.
They heard a loud commotion outside so they both stood up to investigate. Lando's shoulders drooped as he saw the new happy couple of the paddock walk hand in hand, smiling, happy. Happier than when she was with Lando. He watched as she walked by, she didn't even bat an eye to him. He felt the strings of his heart been tugged and torn apart. "I'm- I've got to go to the driver parade." Lando said quickly kissing the top of his girlfriend's head and walking out, following you and Lance very closely. He watched painfully as you laughed with Lance. He used to be the one making you laugh. He should have done something sooner. Maybe he could have saved it if he wasn't such a stuck up little- "Lando, you're on this trailer." Lando was tokrn from his thoughts by a track representative ushering him towards a trailer and up he went. He looked around at who was there, looking for who he could talk to and there, there you stood looking out at the stands filled with people. Lando slowly found himself moving towards you, dreading every second walking towards you. "Oh, hi Lando. How are things?" you chirped. Lando was so confused. Where was the scoff? The eye roll? The whole speech about how annoying he was? "Yeah, things are good." Lando held onto the rails as the truck began driving.
"So..." You looked over to Lando. "You and Lance. How long has that been a thing?" he asked. "Since Hungary, so few weeks." You replied. "That's- that's good for you." he said. You nodded and stared out into the crowd. "You don't seem to think so." you said Lando let out a sigh. "Well I'm the ex, I'm not meant to." You didn't want to look at him. "Lando, as your ex, I'm very happy for you. The very least you could do is pretend you're happy for me." You were starting to get agitated now and you were kind of wishing you hadn't gotten on that trailer for the track parade. "What? Like how you were?" he asked. "What is up with you? You make me happy for you then you make me spiteful of you, can you just make up your mind on what you want me to be?" You snapped. Lando didn't know how to answer that. He wanted you one second but then didn't the next. "Lando, if you want to talk to me, just tell me that instead of making me hate you and then blaming myself when you're being nice because it's seriously starting to take the piss now."
"I still love you." Lando said calmly to not attract the attention of the other few drivers beside you both. "Well boo fucking hoo, you had a chance and you blew it!" Lando felt his entire world crumbling down again. "Lando, you left me and then when I went to move on, you tried to make me jealous! What do you expect me to do?" you asked, taking a sip of your water. "I don't know. I just want to talk to you. I don't want to end anything on a bad note." You were both kind of silent. Neither of you knew what to say. "Lando, I fell for you because I didn't think anybody really liked me. That's the main reason honestly." Lando arched a brow. "So you just settled for me then?" You glared at him. Was he being for real? "What? No. I never-" you let out a sigh. "I never settled for you. I lost a lot of good people just so I could go out with you Lando so don't come over here with that bullshit of I settled for you."
"I didn't settle for you either. I didn't want anyone else. I still don't want anyone else." He admitted. "Well, maybe if you just said earlier things would have been different." The two of you waved and smiled to the crowd to pretend things weren't wrong. "Maybe. Do you hate me now?" Lando asked. "Well, no but you are very irritating." you replied. "Well that's a bit much-"
"You're a bit of a dickhead."
"Okay. I get it-"
"You could maybe do with some manners-"
"Okay, okay. Point proven." You chuckled a bit and put your arm around him. "I could never hate you and I never will. Sure you'll be annoying from time to time but I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate you." The truck stopped and there you found yourselves back at the start finish line. You both looked at each other. There wasn't that urge to punch him or try to dislike him anymore, youu saw him how you saw him before; your friend. You smiled and walked off the truck together. "Hey Y/n! Let's go!" You looked over and saw a Lancée beckoning you over."Well, good luck Y/n." Lando said with his hand out. You looked at the hand and pushed it away before pulling him in for a hug. "Thanks, you muppet." Lando hugged back, he felt a sense of relief pass over him. "I'm glad to be your muppet again." he chuckled. You pulled away and began to walk. The weight fell from your shoulders as you walked away from Lando and into the arms of Lance. "Have a good conversation then?" Lance chuckled. "Yeah, I've got a friend back." Lando watched as you walked away yett again but this time, hee wasn't jealous, he wasn't scared of losing you, he knew you had made up. He was...happy. Slightly pained of course since he hadn't properly gotten over you but still, he was happy you had found the love you truly deserved, even if it wasn't him. "Good for you." he whispered, walking away in the other direction.
"Good for you."
A/N: I'm sure most of you expected that ending but I'm pretty happy with it, that's why it took so long to post
