Allison and I sit across from each other in a café in downtown Death City. Allison sips on her frilly mocha-thing, and I have a cup of hot cocoa.

"So what is going on with you and Maka? Everyone thinks you two are, like, an item."

I slump forward, then look up. "You really don't wanna know," I say.

She leans on her elbows. "But I really do want to know, especially if we're ever going to be together... Which we will," Allison says, smirking.

I take a deep breath. "Basically, I lost my memory earlier today. So I have no idea what the hell reality is, because everyone is telling me that I can turn into a scythe, and that witches are real."

"Wait. So, you have, like, no idea who Maka is?" Her eyes light up, which frightens me a little bit.

"Uh. Yeah. Supposedly, Maka and I started dating this morning, but before we had a chance to officially start dating, I lost my memory. I feel bad, because I had to break up with Maka. And now she's all pissed and heartbroken, which is what you saw just a little while ago," I sigh.

"Hm," she says.

I contemplate my next words, but before I have a chance to speak, Allison does. "Okay, I'm going to just come out and ask you..."

Shit... She's not seriously going to ask me, is she?!

"Will you be my boyfriend? So, I know it's totally unorthodox--cool big word, huh?--for the girl to ask the guy, but I'm a feminist. Seeing as you just broke up with Maka, I understand if you don't want to, but I think that I could be just the person to save you from the insanity of losing your memory and everything you know. And--"

Realizing she's rambling because she's nervous, I stop her. "Allison..." I reach across the round table and grab her hand. I grin, not quite sure as to why. "I don't want to hurt you. I can't just date someone, though. I'm sorry."

Hours later, we're still in the coffee shop, giggling and joking. The sky has long past grown dark.

"Okay, so, do you know anything about what happened this morning which caused you to lose your memory?"

I look down, my face becoming morose. "No. I have no idea. I remember nothing from before about noon today. I can't even think of what to do to regain my memory. They tried to jog my memory by taking me back to the apartment. The only thing that has made the slightest bit of a memory is hearing the name of my ex... Sofie."

She raises an eyebrow. "As in... Sofie Jacobson?"

"I think so. It sounds familiar." I shrug.

She grins. "Do you think seeing her might trigger a memory?"

"Maybe."

"Well, why not try?" She whips out her cell phone and calls Sofie. They must be friends. "Sof? Yeah. Can you meet me at the café in downtown Ay-Sap? Okay, thanks!" She taps her phone, ending the call and beams at me. "She'll be here in five."

I gaze out the window, wondering what Sofie looks like.

After what seems like hours, a tall, blonde girl walks in. Her face is shaded by her windswept hair. She brushes it out of her face, and my heart nearly stops.

I jump up from my seat, anger pulsing through me. "You bitch!"
