It was a normal summers day, you were in maths class with Morty, you sat in front of him but recently the two of you hadn't been close. It was hard for you, to watch Morty fade out of your life, no matter if you lived in the same house. He and his grandpa Rick were both always on Adventures, today seemed to be one of the rare days he actually was at school.
"Okay class, who can tell me what 5 x 8 is?" Mr Goldenfold, your maths teacher, asked the class. You fiddled with your pen, dancing it across the page, ignoring the class around.
"Y/n?" You looked up, quite suddenly. You weren't really paying much attention, you knew these questions. You weren't too sure why you were even in this class.
"Do you know what 5 x 8 is?" Me Goldenfold repeated, chuckling at your nervous posture. You weren't nervous, just startled. It wasn't any students favourite thing to be called on whilst not listening.
"Oh" you sighed, "40" you replied, going back to fuddling with your pen. Life seemed dull lately, the whole class could tell your colours were fading, you focused on your classes and had a couple friends whom you still spoke with, but you closed yourself off to the world once Rick entered your lives.
Goldenfold congratulated you on getting it right but you just shrugged him and the class off, continuing your day dreams. Morty noticed this, and tilted his head a little like the lost puppy he was.
Morty hadn't really noticed your attitude recently, he was too caught up with Rick, stress, and teenage boys things. He'd noticed you were hidden away more but he didnt think much of it, and he hadn't been to school since Rick entered your lives so he couldn't notice anything strange anytime really.
Time faded until the class was over, everyone packing their things up, getting ready to leave. It was the end of the day and you wanted to go home by now.
Half the class had left and you were collecting the last of your things, unaware of anyone around you. You looked up to see the boy in his yellow shirt and brown hair standing immensely close to you.
You helped and took a step back before realising who it was. You smiled, even though everything in your life hurt, it didn't mean everything was shit, right?
"Hey Morty" you chipped, picking up your book. Morty had his things and the two of you left the room.
"Hey, Y/n, did-did you want to hang out or- or something?" Morty asked, the two of you exited the building and began to walk home. You smiled at Morty, a little surprised at the suggestion seeing as you two had barely even spoken for months.
"I, uh, yeah. That would be awesome Morty" Your smile widened, as the two of you began to chat.
"What you wanna do?"
"I-I dont mind y/n, you- you can choose" Morty liked this, he liked hearing your voice, he loved your smile."How about some Nintendo games?" You suggested, trying to suppress a laugh.
"What! No-no way! You always b-beat my ass in them" He whined. You laughed at his whining, you always won whenever the two of you played games, or at least 7/10 times, which was more than enough for Morty.
"Come on Morty! I'll go easy on ya'" You teased, lightly punching his arm. He chuckled, you loved hearing his laugh again. You both laughed and chatted until you got back home. Morty opened the door to the house as you continued chatting about what you'd do this evening.
"I'm so going to beat your ass in smash bros" you laughed as you both entered the house. Both of you went to the dining room where you placed your books to take upstairs later. You were both laughing and cracking jokes as though nothing had happened in the past few months.
