THE MOMENT KATRINA OPENED HER EYES; the throbbing in her head was intense, causing her to instinctively shut her eyes and scrunch up her face in discomfort. Kat attempted to raise a hand to ease the pain, but upon realizing her hands were restrained, she glanced to the side and discovered her wrists tightly bound around a metal loop protruding from the wall, oblivious to the presence of bystanders. Her nostrils flared as her eyes widened, and a surge of panic flew through her body. She frantically tugged at the red fabric the undersupplied group of teens used as a makeshift rope. The frantic movements caused her wrists to turn raw, a painful reminder of the desperate situation they found themselves in.

The words echoed in the room, causing Katrina to lift her head abruptly. "You should stop before you hurt yourself even more," a voice rang out, sending a shiver down her spine. The bruises on Kat's face were evident, along with the blood. She looked to the side and noticed Lincoln, as well as the bruises and blood littering his face, making Katrina's face harden.

Katrina's gaze traveled across the room in front of her. The space resembled a metallic container, and the three men standing before her had their arms folded tightly across their chests, their expressions as cold as the metal around them. Then Katrin saw her kids sitting on the floor with their wrists tied together, gags in their mouths, and tears streaming down their faces. Katrina lunged forward but quickly recoiled, nearly losing her balance and almost tumbling with her head feeling heavy.

The man with curly hair narrowed his eyes as he asked, "Where's your camp? How many of you are out there?"

"Hey. Check it out." A light-skinned boy called from the floor, rummaging through Lincoln's bag before they invaded their home.

Bellamy Blake had picked up the book, and Lincoln lunged forward. The restraints kept him from pushing forward, causing his chains to rattle. Katrina winced at the sudden rattling, her head aching from all the precious fighting. "I think we found something he doesn't want us to see, Miller." Bellamy addressed the boy in the hat, and they began flipping through the book.
