I woke up the next morning, putting on my school uniform. I saw that it was still snowing outside, so I decided to put on my hat today. I looked over to my grey scarf that was hanging off of my chair, memories from the day before had resurfaced from the depths of my mind. That cop was something else, I don't think I've ever really met someone that catches my interest so easily. I grabbed my scarf, as I began walking out of my room to the front door of my house. I spotted my older sister sitting in the living room, seeing as they were right by each other. She looked up from her laptop, looking at me with a blank expression.
"Are you leaving already?" I nodded. "Don't get in trouble with the police again." I furrowed my eyebrows, frowning at her.
"I was never in trouble in the first place." She hummed in response, looking back to the screen. I put on my coat, and wrapped my scarf around my neck as I headed out the door. I proceeded with my usual walk, taking the same route I always took, not a minute too soon nor a minute too early. I noticed how the snow had begun to accumulate overnight, burying everything within a pure white blanket. I enjoyed the peacefulness of these early morning walks, they were relaxing. It was the only thing I had looked forward to each day, even when I didn't have school. I became a bit relieved as I saw the coffee shop ahead of me, I also looked forward to the breakfast Touka always gave me. As I reached out for the door handle, I felt that same anxious feeling from yesterday. I slowly opened the door, being greeted by Touka as usual, before looking over to the table I always sat at. My eyes met a familiar pair, a smile forming on their lips.
"Good morning, (L/N)-San." I saw Officer Sasaki sitting there at the table again. He held another book in his right hand as he waved to me with his left. I walked over to the table, seeing that he had already ordered the same sandwiches from before.
"I see you two have been getting along nicely." Touka walked over as she set down my cup of coffee, refilling Sasaki's. "See, coffee and sandwiches really can bring people together." Sasaki let out a chuckle as he nodded.
"I think we're on better terms now, at least." He offered me another smile as I took a seat, digging into his pockets and pulling out his wallet. I watched as he took out a few bills before putting his wallet away, handing them to me.
"What's this for?" I put down my coffee as I look at him curiously.
"It's for yesterday."
"What?" He chuckles as he places them in my hand.
"It's for the sandwiches." I looked at the amount he handed me, my eyes widening immediately.
"This is more than what I gave you." He leaned on his left hand as he smiled at me, his eyes narrowing in the process.
"Just think of it as a tip for acting so adorable last night." I stopped mid-bite to look at him. I heard a whistle come from Touka as she was setting up the tables.
