LYDIA
The leaflet for this crematorium was amongst my father's belongings, along with a few others but this one had been circled so I assumed this was his ideal one. He wanted to be cremated, and I wanted out of New York so this was a win-win situation for the two of us. I was fairly surprised when I called and they offered me a private tour, but I accepted without question. The place seemed nice for a crematorium, the outside was lush and full of shrubbery and flowers, while the building itself was a dark concrete grey.
The owner was going through the bundle options, but I told them I wanted something simple not bothered about the fuss, and the quicker they could do it the more I was willing to pay which made their greedy eyes light up. Death was a very lucrative business, something we had in common.
I didn't feel anything was particularly off until the owner walks me inside the room where the furnaces are and excuses themselves to make a phone call. It wasn't until I heard something clink behind one of the furnaces behind me that reality dawned on me that this was a set-up, and no doubt in my mind Viggo was behind it. Pulling my hidden gun out, I turn around just as a man pops up from behind the furnace pointing a gun at me, but I was a faster shot and easily put a bullet square between his eyes.
JOHN
The crematorium was surrounded by Viggo's men, so I park just down the street not wanting to draw any attention to myself. I jump over the fence and take out one man who was standing guard outside a door I assumed was a backdoor, and slip inside.
Two more men come around the corner guns pulled, but I kill them before they can kill me. In the distance, I hear a lot of gunshots, and even though I knew Lydia could take care of herself I still sent a small prayer to whoever was listening to keep her safe. Checking how many bullets I had left I continue further into the crematorium.
I take out one more man before aiming at whoever was coming around the corner in front of me, however, I lower my gun when I see it was Lydia who had her gun aimed at me. She stares at me before looking at the dead body at our feet and sighs.
'You took my kill,' she whispers.
This wasn't a place I wanted us to stay, since Viggo would probably send in more men to make sure the job was finished, but Lydia didn't look like she was going anywhere anytime soon until she got some answers.
'Perkins came onto me, Viggo hired her to kill me, and Winston talked some sense into me,' I explain, deciding the shorter story was quicker.
Lydia looks up from the body and pouts, 'Viggo asked me to kill you, pick up dad's contract but I said I couldn't kill you so he offered me a way out of New York. I guess it backfired on me.'
I was happy Lydia said she couldn't kill me, that probably also triggered something inside Viggo since he knew I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon and Lydia maybe could be convinced to come back in the future and pair up with me to cause him more trouble.
'Viggo has to be in the vicinity Lydia, shall we hunt?' I suggest.
A ghost of a smile crosses Lydia's lips, 'I'd like that.'
The two of us go the way I came, taking out a few more men. Viggo needed to hire better people because it was slightly embarrassing how easy some of them were to take out.
Once outside Lydia presses herself against the side of the building before poking her head around the corner towards the front of the building, 'I'd recognise Viggo's car anywhere, man isn't subtle.
I follow where she points and lock eyes with Viggo's car that was a lot more armoured and protected than the others.
'After you Lydia,' I chuckle.
Lydia smirks, 'why thank you, Mr Wick.'
The two of us check our main gun and the others we picked up from some of the men, before rounding the building together ready to go out in a blaze of glory. I was a much faster runner than Lydia, so when Viggo's car starts to drive away I pull away, raising my gun and firing round after round, thankfully taking out two tyres causing the car to come to a screeching halt. Behind me, Lydia covers my back picking off Viggo's men one by one.
We make our way towards the car, and when Viggo's driver stumbles out ready to shoot us I pull the trigger faster. The back door opens and Viggo steps out of the car arms raised above his head, meanwhile, Lydia lines up her aim leaving me to cover her back.
'Lydia...Johnathan...we can surely talk about this--'
'Shut up Viggo, your words mean nothing,' Lydia growls, cutting him off mid-sentence.
'I think you should do it in memory of your father Lydia,' I suggest.
Viggo's eyes widen realising the meaning behind my words, 'Johnathan think about this...'
Lydia snorts, 'screw you, Viggo, It's me you should be grovelling to.'
Before Viggo can open his mouth again, a single gunshot rings out, and Viggo falls to the ground a bullet between his eyes. I look over at Lydia who lowers her gun, before locking eyes with me and inhales deeply.
'Is it over?' she asks.
I nod and lower my own gun, 'it's over Lydia.'
LYDIA
As John arranges a cleanup crew to deal with the dead bodies I lean against the hood of his car twiddling my thumbs. Then in my pocket my phone rings, just as John approaches having finished his own call.
'Who's calling?'
I take out my phone, 'Winston,' I reply and accept the call putting it on speaker.
'Ah Lydia I'm happy you're still alive and I can only assume Johnathan is with you. I would like the two of you to meet me in Central Park as soon as you can,' Winston speaks, sounding rather cheerful.
I share a look with John who shrugs his shoulders before clearing my throat, 'we'll be there in thirty. See you soon Winston.'
'Goodbye,' Winston replies and hangs up.
John opens the passenger door for me and I slip in, 'what do you think he wants John?'
'As long as he doesn't kill either of us I'm good,' he chuckles, though there was a hint of seriousness in his tone.
Winston could be unpredictable at times, but I put my utmost trust in him just like my father did. John gets into the driver's seat and starts up the car, neither of us knowing what lay ahead of us until we arrived.
There was little to no traffic so the journey to Central Park was a quick one. John opens my door like a gentleman and offers his arm which I accept. Neither of us was dressed to be out in public, blood usually scared people off, but as we approach the park it's very noticeable that no one else is around. I tighten my grip on John's arm just a little, keeping on edge in case anything did happen to us.
We find Winston surrounded by several people from The Continental along with Perkins who looked beaten up. Winston motions for the two of us to approach smiling like he was proud of something.
'On behalf of myself and The Continental, I would like to apologise for any inconvenience you sustained during your stay, Johnathan. Rules and consequences,' Winston beams.
John hums next to me, 'rules and consequences Winston.'
One of the men raises a gun and shoots Perkins execution-style, the lone gunshot echoing around the vast empty park. Winston fixes himself, bows his head in our direction, before walking off in the opposite direction. John and I watch the other men clean up Perkins and the blood left behind.
I lean into John, 'he really takes his position seriously.'
John nods, 'we shouldn't get on the wrong side of him Lydia.'
