The Beginning

My day started like any other but ended in a way I would never forget.

It was a Tuesday. As usual my alarm woke me at 8:00am and after hitting snooze at least four times I decided I couldn't put off getting up any longer. My morning routine was the same as it always was; take a shower, fix my hair, brush my teeth, get dressed for the day and finally kiss my mother, father and five year old sister goodbye as I headed out the door. After putting my headphones in I walked ten minutes to the coffee shop down the road. I ordered my usual berry smoothie and said hello to the ever bubbly Penelope who was always there in the mornings picking up coffee on her way to work. I remember commenting on how much I loved her new hair colour after almost not recognising her with flaming red curls rather than her usual blonde locks.

Twenty minutes later I'd find myself at work. I'd switch out of my tank top and into the hotel branded polo all cleaners were required to wear. I fastened my apron, restocked my cleaning supplies and headed up to the first lot of rooms on my list for the day.

I would only get an hour into my six hour shift before I was startled by police officers claiming they were looking for me and it took those officers only seconds to have my hands pinned behind my back and trapped in handcuffs. In all the confusion I never properly heard what they were charging me with and it wasn't until I was being led through the hotel lobby that I heard the word:

Murder.
