In the previous story, “The Knock on the walls.” I cremated my dearest friend, Mohan, and there, I saw the souls of Mohan and his Love ascending to heaven.

I returned home and narrated my story to Torrie.

Torrie was shocked, but seeing me in despair, she soothed me. Getting down to brass tacks, Torrie had supported me, and she was my shock absorber. I was gloomy but she backed me up, and that was a balm to my heart. Six months has passed but still, I use to think of Mohan, and of course he was my friend, so I can’t forget him, however, now I need to fasten my seat belts and do my responsibility. Rey and Angie used to visit our house during weekends, that was like a revival for me, and I told them my story, they understood my pain but as the show must go on, so we moved ahead. Torrie and Angie use to prepare grilled fish with marinade, jalapeno fry sauce and shrimp etouffee which was their favourite dishes. We enjoyed every weekends together.

I was working in a small branch of a Government Bank. I was working as an Accounts Officer, I was involved in preparing journal entries, vouchers, stationery bills and other accounting work. I never had a habit of reaching the office on time, I reached in time, and not at good time or just on time. I used to reach forty-five minutes before the scheduled time, as it gave an enough room to complete pending works if any, and that would lessen the burden further.

The branch timing was 9am to 3pm. While we use to leave at 4pm. The last one hour was spent in clearing off all the backend work, and as it was a small branch, so it was a privilege of not having extra load of work, however, that doesn’t mean that we were sinecure, we have to complete the work on time, so there shouldn’t be humungous burden later. Albeit we were a small branch, but we have a good base of customers, some were farmers, SME’s and other organisations. There were cases when some of our staff use to visit the organisation for verification process, as these organisations apply for loan, so our staff must physically verify their files, registration numbers, especially their accounts and other official formalities. I had been to some of the companies to verify, but that was rare.

I was on the way to rekindle the horror.
