Hello and welcome to Hurricane Betas! This is a rejig of the formerly known Hurricane Book Club, which was a more structured approach to critique partnering. If you want to know how this all works in-depth, or learn how to get listed in these digital pages, head on over to the HBC Guidebook for details!
If you've already read all of that, or are just looking to take a peek at a roster of fantastic critique partners, then read on.
How It Works
Each critter has a chapter in this book, with a bio, credentials, info about their availability, and then detailed info about their books and what feedback they're looking for. If you find someone you think you'd vibe with, you can contact them and ask for a critique swap!
You are responsible for your swaps. This means that we don't assign chapters or check your critiques, nor those of your partner. Everyone listed here has been through an exam and a critique trial, but beyond that you need to figure out logistics like availability and what kind of critique you're both looking for.
Be polite and courteous when approaching a potential partner. Whether you choose to comment on their chapter (don't forget to tag them!), shoot a message on their wall or book, or DM them directly, BE POLITE AND COURTEOUS. Nobody wants to work with a Snarky Marky.
It's a good idea to do a trial run first. Even if everything else seems to fall into place, and all the stars align, sometimes beta swaps just don't work out how you imagine. It's a great idea to do a sample swap, maybe 1-3 chapters, to gauge how you both work (for punctuality and quality) and see if you're a good fit for each other. If not, no hard feelings, politely decline and find someone who you vibe with!
Questions, comments, concerns? Please read the HBC Guidebook, because you'll probably find everything you need to know there! And if you still can't find the answer, shoot us a DM and we'll respond as soon as we can!
Without further ado... here are your Hurricane Betas!
