“Do you have faith in me?” those were the last words I told her before we went our separate ways. I told her that everything that I’ll be doing from this point on is for her, for us to live in a peaceful world. Soon. That will be coming soon for us. I made sure it didn’t sound that I was lying because I was going to be joining a terrorist activist group as an undercover spy for the country. All this while my job was fairly easy which was taking care of wanted men in the country and when I have a solid evidence to bring them down, that is when I make my move. She doesn’t know I do this for a living but even so, she never questions what I do. She trusts me. My choices, my actions and my every word. Knowing that was enough for her was reassuring for me to work harder and harder so that I can stop doing this kind of job and retire. One day. But for now, this is what I do.
I later join up with this terrorist group called “Doom”. Very original guys, very original. Their mission was to bring down all the superior countries starting in Europe following then Asia, Africa, Saudi Arabia and the last target would be America. I was scouted by a friend of mine, Jill, who was one of the founders of this group. He once mentioned to me that he wanted to bring peace to this world. That all the powerful leaders would be brought down to justice and everyone can have a chance to live equally and there wouldn’t be any poor. That was his vision. It’s a good one I must say but order and balance must be attained as well and surely enough them doing this isn’t going to work and that’s where I came along as the guy who’ll be doing all the work from the shadows. If there ever was a rebel force that was trying to shut us down, I would be taking them down from the inside or by… eliminating every single one. But why me? He knows that I work for the government, he knows that I do all these hitman jobs yet he chooses me. Why? Well it was because we both promised that we would protect the world when we were young. He was clinging on to a childish promise that we did once. He also mentioned that he has my girlfriend as hostage. He has kept her hostage ever since I joined the government. “Why? Why would you do this to me? I thought that we were friends? Best friends don’t do this to each other! We’ve been through ups and down together. TOGETHER! Why are you suddenly making this all about you?” I spouted to him but he only replies with “If we were best friends, you of all people would not have joined with them. You would have not made yourself useful to those people that only know how to sit on the high throne that they greedily take from others. Just do as I say or your girlfriend won’t get hurt. I know the government sent you to take us down. You wouldn’t have accepted to join us in the first place so why bother now right? Again, just do as what you’re told and no one gets hurt… Well except all those who are going to die”.
Months have passed since that day. She and I rarely contact each other. Well for me at least. She still keeps me updated on what is she doing daily. She now lives alone in a small apartment far away from the house we were before. Jill told me that she is free to do whatever she wants as long as I don’t tell her anything. So, the only things I can text her are “I’m here in another country. It’s as beautiful as the smile on your face” or “I’m still trying my best over here. Don’t you worry about me. We’ll soon be able to live together, one day”. Oh, I miss her smile. She has one of those smiles that can light up the room whenever she does. Everyone would stop and stare for a while. Her smile glows radiantly whenever I see her coming back from work, while we eat or even when we talk. It was one of the highlights of my day. I do message her once in a while updating her on how healthy I am, how I miss her, how I see these couples in this foreign land and think of us, what we can be after all this is done. Many casualties have been caused by us over these months in the European countries and Asian countries. We were slowly chipping at the powerful bit by bit until they can’t retaliate. They have tried to stop us but we always have a counter measure for anything we do. You increase the amount of police in an area? We can easily sneak our stuff into a building without being detected. Nothing is impossible. Not even having an ordinary life.
