"so sweetie, how have you been? i hope i'm not causing you any stress."

"oh please, you know that you're not, auntie. but i'm fine i guess, even though mr. aizawa and hawks are working me to the bone..." you sighed in exhaustion as you fixed some coils from your afro that were spiraling out of place.

"i know baby, but at least it's paying off! the nurses can't stop talking about how you and that bird boy helped capture that villain last week." you chuckled at your aunt's overly excited tone of voice. and also how she could never remember tokoyami's name.

"i'm so proud of you baby." you couldn't help but to smile at those words. you were so glad that you could make her proud. that's all you wanted to do. keep her safe and make her proud.

"have you talked to your mom lately?" and just like that, your joyous smile fell into a scowl. you rolled your eyes and subtly huffed out.

"no, i haven't. and at this point i don't even care anymore. if she wanted to talk to me she would have called by now." you tried your best to not let your anger interfere with your small make-up process. only applying eyeliner, lashes and a tad bit of lipliner with your lipgloss.

"i understand that you two have a difficult relationship but-"

"it's nothing difficult about it! i'm the child and she's the parent, the least she could do is at least send a text to her child that lives in a whole other country!" you began to raise your voice in anger, slamming down your make up brush onto your vanity.

"alright now, watch your tone. remember who you're talking to." your aunt said sternly, making you immediately shut your mouth. you let out another sharp huff as your slid your hands to cover your face in frustration.

you truly didn't understand why your mother never had the ability to have some kind of relationship with you, her only child. hell, even your father makes an effort to call at least every two weeks to check up on you and even sends a generous amount of money into your bank account.

but your mother? you haven't talked to her since the end of your second year. now you're in the middle of your third year, made a name for yourself as an up and coming hero, and have been on television multiple times rather for the sports festival or villain encounters. there was no way she didn't want to at least call and check up on you. at the very least to make sure you're alive. why didn't she care about you?

"listen to me baby," your aunt's smooth voice knocked you out of your inner thoughts and you lifted your head up again, looking at the black screen that had her contact picture displayed on it.

"i know that sister of mine is an absolute idiot. and i know that it has never been easy for you. she really doesn't realize how blessed she is to have a daughter like you. you're a beautiful, intelligent, strong young woman. and if she wants to miss out on that, it's her loss, you hear me? i may not have given birth to you, but you will always be my child. no matter what. you know i always got you, alright?"
