"Levina my dear, you can't cause trouble like that. Your Dad was very worried." My mother said in a hushed voice, rocking me back and forth. "But I want to see stuff mama. I wanna be able to go places...Like Larson gets to!" My mother put a finger against my lips. "Shhh....Your brother is 16 Levina, he's already finished his training. You're only 8 years old. You'll get your time, don't you worry." I looked down and pouted silently. "That day will never come." I crossed my arms, but my mother laughed at my expression. Her laugh was kind and genuine. "Yes it will my dear. It may seem far away, but it will come." She said tapping her finger on my nose softly. "Mama? Why is the Wrevari (Rev-Wary) forest so dangerous?" I asked her. She shook her head, and let out a low sigh. "I guess I'll have to tell you. Listen closely." She said, and I nodded in response. "The wrevari forest is famous for its extremely tall trees. People say, that it's trees grow three times larger, than any Viking has ever seen." She told me, waving her hand in the air, as if drawing a mental picture. "Really? That's amazing..." I gasped. She chuckled. "Very amazing." She said and nuzzled my nose making me giggle. "Now, long ago, when Vikings first came across the wrevari forest. They immediately sent people in to scout out the wood, packing water, and food supply. But, none had returned." My excited expression was now replaced with a more fearful one as I listened. "One day three Vikings were sent in. Only one came back. Unharmed, and safe. But the other two never returned. The Viking was asked questions. Turns out that group split off in different directions to cover more ground. One went down a hill. The other into another layer of trees. The last one kept following the path. The Viking that followed the path. Was the only one who ever returned. Since then no child, nor' Viking stepped foot inside, fearing that the wood was haunted, cursed, or even magical. Keeping Vikings that strolled off the path trapped inside its prison of nature forever. Never to be seen again." She said her face growing serious, as if she were acting in a play. "Teenagers, and children are forbidden to enter. Only worthy Vikings with permission can venture forwards. But every so often. One of those Vikings would stray a little ways off the path. Never to find it again." I shuddered at the thought of never getting out. "So you see Levina, you can't go into that place anymore. It's dangerous." She said with a warning tone, and I looked down. "Yes mama.." she smiled. "That's my good girl...." she said, leaning forward giving me a kiss on my forehead.

I opened my eyes to find tears rolling down my cheeks. I sit up and quickly wipe them away, before rubbing the sleep from my eyes. It's been three whole years since my mothers death. She was heading to the southern markets to pick up supplies for the island, when she was robbed. She was practically beaten to death. It turned my whole world upside down. She was my hero. I was heart broken. It took a while to get over it, but without River, it'd probably take longer. Sighing, I got out of bed and opened my window. It was still pretty early, but the morning was beautiful. Taking in the morning dew, I smiled. Main Street looked so peaceful, beautiful pink fog was setting, fireflies were still out flying around enjoying their flight before the sun came round. The mountain ever so slightly sparkled from the rising sun. I smiled and climbed up onto the window sill bare footed and still wearing my pajama's. I stood on the shingles of my roof, looking at the sparkling ocean. Wind blew my hair out behind me and I breathed it in getting a whiff of that ocean smell. I jumped a little when a rock landed beside me, I picked it up and chuckled knowing who had thrown it. I shook my head, and looked over the side to see River, who was up and at 'em already. "Got room for one more Lev-Lev?" I giggled at the sudden use of my nick name. "Why not Riv?" I said hugging my knees. He shook his head. "I'll need help up, I can't get up there without a hand." I rolled my eyes in a playful manner and nodded. "Alright come up here..." I said, feeling myself smile. River stepped up on some boxes. Grabbing my hand. "There you go!" I heaved him up onto the roof, and smiled happily, I've known River my whole life, he was like a second brother to me. My best friend, I must say I also had a thing for him once. I pushed those feelings down though, since he was two years older than me. I don't know if they're gone, or are still there. But I do know one thing. River wouldn't like me. He likes the heroic and strong type of Viking, and I am neither, so I couldn't get him to like me even if I tried.
