Getting to the top

The Big Day

"Girls, wake up" Mrs. Feehan whispers. I woke up and rubbed my eyes. It was 4:00. "I put your outfit on the bathroom floor. Go take a shower. You have 8 minutes to take a shower. Set a timer on your phone." my mom whispers. I get up and go into the bathroom. I turned on the light. I turn on the water and get in.

"Girls, let's go to the suite now" my mom said. "Ok" Leah and I said. We put on our sneakers and went to the suite. "Ready for the big day?" Lisa asks. I nod my head. "Kate, sit here" my mom pointed to a little stool. I sat down as my mom got all our hair stuff ready. She started doing my hair. Mrs. Feehan started doing Leah's hair right next to me. Mrs. Coehlo was doing Colleen's hair on my other side.

"Finished" my mom said. I got up and looked at the mirror. I looked pretty good. My hair wasn't in a full wig though. I looked over at Leah. She had a full wig on. Colleen had a full wig on too. "Why aren't I wearing a full wig?" I asked my mom. "Because the teachers said not to." she said. I looked over at Alicia. She had a full wig too. Everybody has a full wig on execpt me. The teachers came over and looked at the 4 of us. There were other people there too getting ready but they weren't done yet.
"You girls look beautiful" Karen said.

We walked downstairs to Ballroom C. We found some chairs and put our stuff on them. I got in the line to check in. I was standing with Leah, Colleen and Alicia. Once I checked in I sat down in my chair. "Ladies and Gentalmen, The competition starts in 5 minutes. Everyone in rotation 1 please get ready and come side stage" the lady said over the microphone.

"Next 30 dancers please come side stage." the lady said. That was me. I slipped on my dress and went side stage. I got in my order. I was dancing with numbers 173 and 174.

The other rotation is doing their number check. My rotation is next but I'm not till the end. "What's your name?" number 173 asked me. "Kate. What's your's?" I asked. "Mackenzie" she answered. "What's your name?" I asked number 174. "Quinn" she answered. Oh. I've seen this girl before. I saw her friday at the tanning place and saturday in the practice room. "I think I've seen you before. At the tanning place. What time where you there?" Quinn asked. "8:50" I said. "Oh. I think I was there when you were drying your legs." she said. "Yeah" I said. She sat down in a chair. I was up next. "Next up we have numbers 172, 173, and 174. I walked on stage and went closest to the steps. I listen for the hornpipe to start. I point and get ready. Then I start.

"Great Job" everybody tells me. "Thanks" I say back. I walk out in the hallway and go to a water cooler. I fill up a plastic cup. As I finish the water Lisa and Karen come up to me. "Great Job" they say. "Thanks" I say to them. "You just need to point your feet on the double click. But everything else was good" they say. I walk back in the ballroom and sit in my chair. "I thought you did great" my mom says to me. "Thanks" I answer. I go back stage again for the number check. I have to wait a few more groups of girls to do their hornpipe. When all the groups are finished we ealk on stage for the number check. Everyone is taking pictures of their kids. I see my mom taking a picture of me. When everyone is done taking their pictures we all walk off stage. I go over to where my stuff is and take off my dress and shoes. I sit on a chair and watch the other dancers. After Leah dances I go over to her and I tell her how good she did. Then Colleen was dancing and we both watch her. As she walks down the stairs Leah and I run over to her. "You looked sooooooooo good" Leah and I tell her. "Thanks. You guys did great too." she says. She goes over to her stuff which was next to mine and has a drink. "Colleen. Great job. That was much better than you did in the hallway" Mrs. Coehlo tells Colleen. "I thought you did great. Just point your back foot on the double up kick down. But it was better than it was in class." Lisa tells Colleen. I look at the stage and Alicia was dancing. She looked great. When Alicia was done dancing Colleen ran up to her and hugged her. "That was sooooooooooooooo good" Colleen told her. I went over to her too. "That was really, really good" I tell Alicia. Now the hard shoe round was finished. Next is soft shoe. I was near the begging for soft shoe. I was the first rotation so I got my dress and my shoes on. "Can the first 30 dancers please come side stage for the soft shoe round" the announcer lady said. I walked side stage.

"Next up are numbers 171 and 172" the announcer said. I forgot we were going two at a time. I walked on stage and got in my place. I waited for tge music to get to the right spot and I started.

Ding Ding. I point and bow. I follow the other girl off stage. "Good job Kate" my teachers say. "How do you think you did?" my mom asks me as she walks over to me. "Good" I say. "Could have been a tiny bit better" I say. As I walk over to where all my stuff is everybody tells me great job and I looked awesome. I tell them thank you and I sit down. I watch some people dance and then I have to go back for the number check. I go on stage and wait for everyone to finish taking their pictures. I walk off stage and go over to my stuff. I watch Alicia, Leah and Colleen dance. "Recalls will be at 2 o'clock" the announcer announced when everybody was done dancing. It was only 1 o'clock. Leah, Me, Colleen and Alicia and our moms all went to get something to eat. I just got a bagel.

"Girls, we need to go back for recalls" Mrs. Feehan says. I jump up and throw my plate away. We all walk back to ballroom c and we sit in our chairs. "Okay. Recalls are here for girls under 10. Please listen for your number.

"171, 172, and 176" the lady announced. "Yes" I said. "All the dancers who recalled please come up and tell us your set and speed" the lady said. I walked up and told her my set and speed. I got my hard shoes back on. I didn't put my dress yet because I am second to last for my set.

"Good job Kate" my mom says as I walk over to her after doing my set. "Thanks" I say. I take my dress and my shoes off and sit in my chair. The last girl walked on stage. I watched her do her set. "Kate, do you want to go back to our hotel room and have some snacks?" my mom asked me. "Sure" I say. "Go get Leah, Colleen, Alicia and their moms please" my mom tells me. I go get them and we walk back up to our hotel room. "I got some extra candy and some japenese soda's for you." my mom says and pulls out the candy and sodas. "Let's eat on the floor" I say. "Here" my mom says handing us the snacks and drinks. I grab a soda and sit down. "Do you think your gonna qualify for worlds? I ask all of my friends. "Mabye" they say.
