I wanted to die. I was 3 fucking hours late to school on my very first day. My mom was speeding down the highway with me and my sister, Lottie. We had just moved from Rhode Island to London, so our sleep schedule was off. My mom had claimed school didn't start for another "2 hours". This day could not get any worse. As I felt the car finally come to a halt, I heard my sister start complaining to my mom. I though didn't waste any time and immediately jumped out of the car with the note my mom wrote for me. I wanted to die from embarrassment holding it. It was high school, not middle school. Who the hell brings a note for tardiness.
I could hear my mom shouting towards me but I just ignored it as I walked towards a building. A few moments later and I could feel Lottie strolling next to me fuming with anger. We were already suppose to be in 4th period.
We walked without saying a word to one another, since I was a sophomore and she was a freshman, we had planned to pretend we were both an only child and had no blood relation. Once we made it to the front door and walked in, an older lady greeted us.
After giving our notes and getting questioning looks from everyone in the front office, we were each directed towards our 4th periods. Once me and Lottie got into the hall we dismissed each other and went our separate ways. I practically ran to the directed classroom because I was already 10 minutes late.
I made it to class and found a seat in record time, of course only after a humiliating introduction. My desk mate was a morbidly obese kid. He looked somewhat Asian. I tried introducing myself but he would only rock back and forth while chewing on his left pinky.
So instead I found myself chatting to a beautiful girl in front of me with blue eyes such as myself. Her name was Emily and she offered me a seat by her at lunch, which I gratefully accepted. I told her all about my horrid day and she told me a lot of useful information about the school. Of course though, I didn't tell her that I was indeed a gay man. So all her lady "advice" wouldn't be that useful. Though I was quite thankful for her generosity overall.
Time seemed to fly as class was already over, we all managed our ways out. I waited outside for Emily because she stayed behind talking to a friend. I couldn't help but eavesdrop while waiting and I was shocked after realizing what I had heard.
"Emily why are you talking to that loser? Literally he looks so gay with his thick thighs." I heard a brunette chuckle out.
"Shhhh, he is waiting for me. I think he is a school shooter and I don't wanna die you know. Anyways lunch is starting, bye!" Emily exclaimed giggling, hugging her friend before walking out.
I wanted to cry, was she only being nice because she thought I would harm her? Did I really look gay? Were my thighs too big? I wanted to yell at Emily and confront her, but she is all I had. I didn't wanna end up like my desk mate. Maybe Emily could help me look less gay? I sighed feeling defeated, I already gave off a loser impression. I decided to stay quiet.
"Hey babes! Why do you look so glum? Lunch is starting, let's go!" She yelled cheerfully, taking my hand in hers and yanking me down the hall.
I remained quiet until we both had our lunch trays and found a seat. When we sat I looked around at who I was sitting by. Emily introduced me to everyone. There was a cute boy named Joshua, he looked like an innocent puppy. So far he was the cutest boy I'd ever seen. Next to him was the same Asian kid, he was a few feet away but he was still close enough to be considered in the group, though Emily didn't give him an introduction. There was a bubbly girl named Katy and a gorgeous boy named Shawn. Though to me Shawn wasn't as attractive as Joshua, he didn't look as innocent. I just got more turned on by innocent looking people, I found it hella sexy. Though when I sat down everyone looked at me with pity. Almost as if they didn't want me there.
When I asked about the Asian kid everyone ignored me and Katy changed the subject.
"So hun, did Emily tell you about everything already? Clubs, Gossip, Girls?" She said while smirking.
Joshua and Shawn rolled their eyes at her statement. Just then Shawn spoke up. "Katy give him some breathing air, yea? He is new and all, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to space out information." He chuckled out.
"Uh, did you just sass me Shawn, see toxic masculinity at its finest, Emily help a girl out!?!" She shrieked.
Just then the table bursted out into an argument. I sighed, looking around the cafeteria trying to tune them out. All I wanted was to explore and make friends. Hell I didn't even remember how to get to the cafeteria. The whole school was like one big maze.
Just then a table caught my focus. It seemed to be a group of jocks with a few girls. I couldn't see any of the males, only the females since they were sitting near the end of the table. The only reason this table stood out though was because both of the girls were staring at me. Well at least they were until I caught them. I turned around to 'my' group and spoke up.
"Emily, who are those people?" I asked pointing at the table.
Everyone turned to look at where I was pointing, including the Asian looking guy. I still didn't know his name, I think it started with a J though.
I heard Katy and Joshua gasp, while Shawn just yawned and went back to eating. Emily eyed me suspiciously before she decided to speak.
"Look Louis, I don't know why you are curious but I don't exactly think you would 'roll' with those types of people. They are only the most popular people at this school." She snorted out, almost in a mocking way.
"Now what Emily actually means to say is that Harry is the most popular person. His friends are just cool by association." Shawn retorted, rolling his eyes at Emily.
"Uhm, who is Harry? Why is he the most popular?" I asked dumbfounded.
"Only because he is the sexiest god like person to ever exist, not to mention he is the most athletic person alive. Oh and I can't forget his charming stature." Katy abruptly blurted out, swooning in the process.
"Look Louis, he is only bad news. He may be cheeky but he is nothing but a bully. He goes around acting like he owns the place. Doing whatever he wants when he wants, he is one cocky motherfucker." Shawn sighed, bringing a finger up to his temple.
"Don't get them wrong though Louis, I think Harry's friends are cool within themselves but Harry highers their status." Joshua interrupted.
"What about the girls, why are they there?" I ask glancing back one more time to see them chatting gleefully and blissfully unaware.
"Look dude they are way out of your league. I believe one of them is dating a jock over there, the other I know for a fact has been chasing Harry for years." Joshua sighed, a hint of sadness in his tone.
"We don't know for sure if they dating any of the jocks though, keep your head up Joshy." Katy giggled.
After awhile Katy changed the subject to why vegetables are actually just fruit. I dazed out thinking about all the new information I had just collected.
Harry was supposedly the most popular kid, the two girls who were looking at me were both popular by association and Joshua seemed to like one of them. Hearing that they were all bullies though was not shocking, I bet they were the people who would bully me if they found out about me being gay. I sighed.
Just than the bell rang, indicating a new period. I looked up only to find all my new 'friends' were gone, they were all already rushing up and over to the trash cans. I felt like someone was staring at me so I looked over only to find the Asian boy. Though I couldn't see his eyes I could see his face directly facing me. I shuttered but brushed it off, I proceeded to quickly get up and throw away my trash. I knew I had PE next so I got out my phone and looked at the school's map.
I sighed seeing the complex outline, I hurried off in an unknown direction hoping for the best. This was going to take awhile.
