[NOT FULLY EDITED]Chapter 2 - Miscreants
I was almost half asleep before I heard a short noise.
Pausing, I listened again only to hear another sound. Getting up, I silently crept over to my bedroom door and listened. After another few moments I heard another sound which seemed like hushed voices. I opened the door.
The corridor was dark, empty. Who on earth would even be up here at this hour? I thought to myself as I moved.
The sounds of the ball music could be heard below which no doubt covered the sound of my footsteps as I trod stealthily across the hallway. Whoever it was would making such noises would certainly get a piece of my mind for waking me up at this time if I ever found them.
As I carried on moving, I strained to hear the voices increasing in volume until I was stood in front of a couple who looked like they were arguing.
The duo sprung apart as I cleared my throat and I was shocked to see that it was in fact Carlos and my maid, Eva who were stood in front of me. The young girl who looked around my age (I hadn't previously noticed) curtsied slightly, excusing herself before hurrying away.
She hadn't looked pleased to say the least which had me curious. What was it that Carlos had done now?
Eyeing him curiously, I asked him what they'd just been doing. To say his answer was shady would be a huge understatement. "It was just a misunderstanding." He'd said calmly before abruptly turning and walking away.
I was stunned to say the least.

The next morning I woke up feeling refreshed which was a nice surprise and hopped out of bed feeling slightly cheerful.
After getting ready with the help of a few maids (including Eva who studiously avoided my gaze the whole time), I went downstairs, passing the ballroom on the way. It seemed to be cleared up of all of last night's mess which was good. I would've hated to see any reminders of the night.
On entering the large dining room, I noiced everyone had already sat down - including Roland who actually looked quite cheerful himself. Miguel and Carlos were also there.
"Morning," I said to no one in particular before picking up the jug of orange juice. I'd already had a bag of blood in my room before I'd come down so I was refreshed enough to eat normal food. Yes, you heard me. Normal food.
I bit into my sausage.
My mother, Indiana, smiled at me from across the table. I noticed she was wearing a long-sleeved turtle neck dress which i reckoned really suited her. "Darling, how did you find last night?"
When she'd asked that I'd almost choked on my orange juice.
My father gave me a cheerful wink as if knowing I'd ditched early. He probably did. "I, er..." Desperately, I tried to remember some of the details from last night but found I couldn't. "The music was great," I managed at last.
She gave a small nod of satisfaction. "It was quite." I relaxed.
After breakfast I decided to go horse riding with Carlos joining me because he wasn't able to make lunch that afternoon.
"Faster, Crystal!" I yelled as my beautiful white stallion galloped across the estate. From beside me Carlos laughed breathlessly, riding my brother's black mare, Benjamin. My hair was whipped viciously by the wind as I struggled to keep up with him. "Slow down!" I yelled petulantly. There was no need for him to show off.
