You stopped between two compartments and fished the note out of tour pocket.
The crumpled piece of paper read as follows.See you at my parents party in a week. Crabbe and Goyle won't be there.
P.S your eye looks awful.
- D.L.MYou looked at the paper, surprised. Had Draco Malfoy just written a note to you for no reason?
Why did he feel it was necessary to tell you that his goons wouldn't be at the annual end-of-term Malfoy Manner dinner party?
You had a few guesses.
It was helpful though, you'd forgotten about the party.
How could you? You parents were close with the Malfoys and you never seemed to be able to escape an invitation.
Great, now you had three hours of wandering around the Malfoy's Sitting room with a butterbeer and an uncomfortable dress to look forward to.
You folded the note carefully and continued down the train to find Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
You found them, and quickly slipped into their compartment. "mind if I join you?"
"Course not" Ron said through a mouthful of chocolate. You smiled and plunked down next to him.
Harry looked up from a copy of the daily prophet, probably reading an article about himself.
"Dean and Ginny getting on your nerves already?"You smiled "just a bit"
Hermione looked at you and sudden became serious, "what're you going to do about your parents?". She was one of the few people who fully understood the extent of your hatred for them.
You shrugged "just pretend like I don't want to kill them all summer again. Just like last year... and the year before that, and the year before that..."
"Y/n it's not healthy for you to just pretend to love them for two months straight" she scolded, looking concerned.
"There's nothing else I can do, besides it's not that bad if I just-"
"You could come and stay with us" Ron interrupted in a relaxed manner. You looked at him in surprise, then it faded into sadness.
"You don't understand. for that to happen, for me to *finally be free* I'd have to really sit them down and tell them how horrible they've been. I'd have to watch as they realize their perfect little daughter hates them. Then I'd have to endure their wrath, which honestly might not even be worth it."
They all looked down. "Thank you though." You said realizing it might've come across as a bit rude.
"Besides" you said trying to lighten the mood, "theres a party at Malfoy Manner in a week that I wouldn't miss for the world" you joked.
They all laughed and you spent the rest of the ride with them.
As the two of you were leaving the compartment Ron spoke to you, "y/n please write to me this summer, and I know you said you dont need to, but you're still welcome at the Weasley's anytime." He smiled at you and walked out.
Maybe you would finally stand up to your parents this summer. You thought about the note still in your pocket....after the Malfoys party.
