you cared for me after all...

"did you love her?" the voice was soft like feathers.

"so so much." you babbled instantly, you lifted your head up to the figure above you. "what do i-, how do i-"

"shh come on,..." they hushed your desperate pleas and help you up, rubbing your shoulder comfortingly. "let's go home. it'll be alright."

the figure embraced you, cradled you like a defenseless child. and you accepted, letting all your hurt flow away from you, the wound was still there. but, you felt the love. the love you so desperately needed and you welcomed its arrival. they pulled away with an unreadable face, wiping your teary eyes with their thumbs.

their eyes look straight through you with an expression where you could tell they knew. they knew your feelings were real, not fabricated. in that moment, they saw you clearly. who you were, how you fought bravely and lost in the battle of war, a war they were all too familiar with. that's when they knew they were wrong. and that you were never a liar.

"okay..mom."

hurt things always get repaired, hearts, bones, connections between a mother and daughter.
