It had spread like wild-fire all over the imperial palace grounds that Aaliyah Drusus, the one who's parents had almost caused the destruction of the Obelian Empire would be closely serving the second prince, along with being his companion due to their closeness in age and the imperial connection between the two.Aaliyah hadn't been instantly sent to work in the second prince's palace as soon as her audience with the Empress had came to a close. She had rather been sent back to the infirmary where she had first found out that she had been reincarnated.
She had been sent to stay there for just three more days under the Empress' loving care, because she had been deeply concerned that Princess Edith's great granddaughter as she had worded it was still a little bit ill.
Aaliyah had pondered about who she was trying to fool and about how word of her working in the second prince's palace had spread. She had instantly knew it had been the work of the Empress. As she headed back to the infirmary, she could already hear the effect from whispering palace workers and even some of the nobles who were visiting the palace for the time-being:
"What an excellent decision made by the Empress. Both of the children's mothers don't know their place."
"Only the daughter of criminals could serve such an illegitimate and unwanted child."
"Let alone his name and illegitimate status, no other nobles will think of supporting the second prince with such a servant by his side."
"The Empress is just using the name of Princess Edith, a long forgotten adopted imperial daughter to make the girl the companion of the second prince, is she not?"
"Isn't the Empress trying to remind the illegitimate prince and other nobles of his lowly commoner backgrounds that can never change? The first Duke of the Drusus House had been a mere mercenary who had been excessively rewarded the inheritable title of Duke and right to marry a princess, after all."
"Is the Empress trying to forewarn that if the second prince ever gets chance to rule the empire, he will lead it to an almost destruction like the girl's parents did?"
Aaliyah had already predicted something like this happening after the Empress had made her decision, a political decision at that. Nobles loved to read in between the lines of royals' actions and words. No, most of them had to if they had wished for them and their families to survive. One wrong move could lead to the extinction of an entire noble house, after all.
Speaking of wrong moves and the extinction of an entire noble house, Aaliyah once more thought about the decisions His Majesty had made to pardon her father and mother of their crimes with only wealth, land, and power striped along with a title demotion. Even with some of the reasons provided for His Majesty's decisions, she had felt like there had been something peculiar going on there.
And she had also found it strange how her father had suddenly disappeared in battle when his country had needed him the most. Even though it had been true that her father had gotten married and had her during war, even in the short time of knowing her father, she had known that he had been anything but unpatriotic and lascivious. He had been the complete opposite when he had been alive.
All her father had cared about had been Obelia, dying for his country in the end. And her father .... lascivious? Her father had barely shown any feelings towards the opposite sex except for her grandmother, her and her little siblings.
Reaching the door of the infirmary, she knocked three times.
"You may come in." Aaliyah heard the gentle voice of the elderly medic.
