The next day, Eren finally got the hang of the ODM gear and he pumped his fist in the air as if he had just accomplished something major. I scoffed at this while everyone was cheering him on. The bastard has finally done it.
A year had passed since that day, and training was relentless, as usual. One day, Shadis decided to take us out in the woods, in the fucking rain, which made it muddy. We had to carry bags that weighed more than a horse. While doing this, I helped Armin with his bag and I had cleaning duty for a month. Mikasa still continued with her idle threats, which was something I was used to. Eren and Jean bickered as usual. So basically, everything was normal, until today.
Today we started off with hand to hand training with fists and I got paired up with Mikasa.
We stood in our positions, locked in an intense staring contest. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw... my father.
All of the memories of him came back to me and I froze, not realizing that Mikasa charged at me, and then I felt a sharp, stinging pain in my cheek. I doubled over and little time to react before she kneed me in my stomach and I fell to the ground, blood pouring out of my mouth.
"Is that all you got? You are all talk and you can't even beat me!" Mikasa cheered with a smirk.
I tried to get up, but Mikasa kicked my side, making me unable to move. I wince in pain and I look over at my father and he had a disapproving look on his face. I got so scared because he one said that I have to beat all of my opponents or I will receive a harsh punishment.
"Okay you win," I choked out while getting up and spitting some excess blood out of my mouth.
She charged me again, but this time I was ready. I swiped her legs, but she had already anticipated that so she grabbed my leg that was gonna swipe hers and twisted it. I groaned and roundhouse kicked her with my free leg and she let go of my leg and fell on the ground. I looked at my father again and he still had a disapproving look on his face. Why can't I ever not be a disappointment?
