Jungkook was nervous. He couldn't help it.
Walking into the territory of the enemy he was sworn to kill made his skin crawl and itch. He didn't like it. He didn't trust it. But he was still able to reason that this situation was his fault. His family had to up and leave their home, the town they knew, the people, all because he couldn't control himself. Sure, he could tell himself that it was to protect Hwan, but was that really all of it? Jungkook let out a shaky sigh as they pulled up to the front gates of the refugee camp, two armed guards waiting. Jimin put the car in park as he rolled down the windows as the soldiers approached. Once the man reached his window, he put on a pretty smile. The soldier glanced him over and then lowered a bit to look in at Jungkook and in the back at Hwan.
"Can I help you?" The soldier asked, turning his attention back onto Jimin.
Jimin nodded, keeping his hands on the steering wheel.
"Yes sir, my family and I are seeking refuge, the war reached our town, and we have nowhere else to go." Jimin said.
The soldier glanced over to Jungkook, he could see the man's leg nervously bouncing and then shared a quick glance with his partner on the other side. The soldier then looked back to Jimin. He would have pushed harder, but Hwan being in the back made him hesitate.
"Do you have your papers?" The soldier asked.
Jimin slowly shifted and reached into his bag sitting between Jungkook and him. He pulled out the fake human styled IDs that Seokjin helped him to get. He handed them over to the soldier and he examined them. His brows furrowed.
"You are a doctor?" The soldier asked.
"Yes sir, I am, well I was, before our town..." Jimin started, but the soldier nodded.
"We actually need another doctor here, so that is great. Go inside and report to the medical tent. Once they clear you with the blood test and get you a card, you will be given a tent." The soldier said as he handed Jimin back the cards.
"Thank you." Jimin said.
The soldier nodded as he backed up and signaled for the doors to be opened. Jimin let out a sigh of relief as he glanced at Jungkook.
"You okay?" Jimin asked.
Jungkook simply nodded, not trusting himself to speak right now. He was too tense and struggling to keep himself from snapping. Once they were through, Jimin parked the car in the lot provided and got out. He moved to get Hwan out of the car seat, the pup eager to get out of the car after hours of driving. Jimin set him down beside him.
"Remember sweetie, always stay close to either me or daddy okay?" Jimin said as Hwan looked up at him, hugging his stuffed rabbit as he nodded.
"Kay mama." Hwan said.
Jungkook walked around to join them, he winced a little as Jimin closed the door and looked at him with worry.
"Are you okay?" Jimin asked.
"I'm fine, just my leg." Jungkook said, forcing a pained smile.
Jimin turned to face him, pushing a few loose strands off Jungkook's face as he smiled back at him, brushing his fingers across Jungkook's cheek, and rubbing the spot under his eye with his thumb.
"We'll be okay. Things will work out." Jimin said.
Jungkook's eyes lowered as he turned his head away.
"Yeah, as long as I keep my shit together." Jungkook said, raising his hand to place it over Jimin's, giving it a gentle squeeze for comfort.
"You can do this baby, you have to, for Hwan." Jimin said, leaning up and placing a few soft kisses against Jungkook's lips, Jungkook let out a soft whimper.
"I will." Jungkook said, trying to convince himself more than Jimin.
Jimin nodded and then grabbed Hwan's hand as they walked into the camp. It was just as you would imagine, full of many tents, all lined up in rows and almost all of them full of either a family or someone. Some looked badly injured, most likely caught directly in the fighting. Jimin recognized the wounds, claw and bite marks, missing limbs torn off by a wolf. It was awful. Jimin moved to pick Hwan up, holding him close and trying to keep him from seeing most of it. To Jungkook, it wasn't an unfamiliar sight. He never saw the human camps like this, but the wolf ones were just as bad. They found their way to the medical tent and after a wait, their blood was drawn, and they were given their food and ID cards. Jungkook pulled his sleeve down, glancing at Jimin as he frowned nervously.
"How did he take it?" Jungkook asked.
Jimin glanced at the pouting Hwan, who was sniffling and burying his face into Jimin's neck for comfort in his scent.
"He did very good, but he definitely didn't like it." Jimin said, kissing the side of Hwan's head as Jungkook rubbed his back.
"You did so good bud, you showed mama and I how brave you are." Jungkook said as he kissed the top of Hwan's head as he whimpered.
Jungkook then looked around before his gaze fell on Jimin, leaning in like he was kissing his forehead but it was just so they could talk without his lips being read or someone listening in.
"What are we going to do? Our blood..." Jungkook whispered against his skin.
Jimin lifted his head a bit, kissing at Jungkook's jawline.
"It will be fine. I took care of it." Jimin said, "Let's go."
Jungkook blinked but nodded as they grabbed their things and went to find their tent. Luckily, it was in the way back, closer to the back fencing and a possible exit. It was still guarded, but it was workable if necessary. Jungkook lifted the flap and let Jimin go in with Hwan first as they looked around. Surprisingly, the tent was spacious, it had two cots with sleeping bags rolled up on top of them. A makeshift sink that could be used for bathing and a little cooking set up in the center. It wasn't their home, but it was a safe place to lay their heads while they tried to figure things out. Jimin set Hwan down as he clung to Jimin's pants, still upset about having his blood drawn. Jimin pushed his hands through his hair as he rested his joined hands on the back of his neck and looked around.
"Well." Jimin said.
Jungkook looked around and then back to Jimin, offering a weak smile.
"Well." Jungkook answered.
"This is home sweet home." Jimin said as Jungkook walked towards him and slowly wrapped his arms around his mate, burying his face in Jimin's hair.
"I'm sorry baby, I'm so sorry." Jungkook said.
Jimin raised his arms, wrapping them around Jungkook as he shook his head.
"I'm not." Jimin said, sighing in relief as he soaked in his Alpha's scent. "Not at all."
