09. Afraid to lose you

Namnuea wasn't a big fan of hospitals, so he always avoided unnecessary visits to the doctor as much as possible. However, recently he was feeling more and more tired, even passing out during working hours and causing alarm in all colleagues and specially in his boyfriend/boss.

"Love, you need to take care of yourself! I scheduled an appointment and tomorrow we are going to see the doctor, okay? Don't even try to refuse it!", Phamueang said decidedly as he arranged the blankets to make the other one more comfortable.

That was how Namnuea found himself in front of the doctor explaining to him that he had found some results that deserved better investigation and therefore he would need more medical exams before formulating a diagnosis. In that instant, Namnuea felt his heart break as he remembered the cases in his family in which those words preceded the final moments of his dear relatives.

Exactly thinking about it and preferring to spare Phamueang, he hid what the doctor said, trying not to worry the boyfriend too much before having the confirmation of a real reason to panic. However, the owner of the winery was extremely perceptive and, especially as he was the most special person in the world to him, he soon noticed Namnuea's behavior changing. He seemed more distant, disinterested and paler.

"Love, do you want to talk about what's going on? Since that day we went to the doctor, you've been different…", Phamueang said hugging him by the waist.

"It's nothing, really!", Namnuea said giving a quick peck to distract the other.

"Hey, you know you can count on me, right? We're in a relationship to support each other. There's no point in doing this if we can't really help each other in thick and thin.", Phamueang insisted on the topic, knowing that the other was hiding something.

"It's just… I'm afraid…", Namnuea confessed softly, almost in a shy tone.

"I'm also afraid of losing you, love. But it's too early to think like that, don't you think? When you feel insecure, hold my hand and let's face whatever the future holds together!", Phamueang said, extending his little finger to the other.

"Okay!", Namnuea said, interlacing their fingers.

A few days later the results came out and the doctor reported that Namnuea had a blood deficiency that indicated anemia. If treated, it would be manageable and he could go back to his normal life.

It was at that moment that Phamueang decided that he would take better care of his lover and started to personally monitoring what the other ate, when he rested and to be sure that he would exercise frequently.

But somehow, that seemed insufficient. Even after Namnuea's health got better, Phamueang felt that he wanted more and started to think to himself what he could do about this.
