"Have you been experiencing any of the following symptoms?

Bone and joint pain, Easy bruising and bleeding, for example: bleeding gums, skin bleeding, nosebleeds , Feeling weak or tired Fever, Loss of appetite and weight loss, Paleness, Pain or feeling of fullness below the ribs, Pinpoint red spots on the skin, Swollen glands in the neck, under arms, and groin or Night sweats?" The doctor asked me, examining his clipboard.

"Um...Yeah. Most of them actually." I replied.

"OK. We're going to need to run some tests."

"Wait, why?"

"Well, Mr. Tomlinson," He said "I suspect that you may have Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Are you familiar with this form of cancer?"

"Um. No Dr.Walsh."

"Alright, well Acute lymphocytic leukemia, or ALL, occurs when the body produces a large number of immature white blood cells, called lymphocytes. The cancer cells quickly grow and replace normal cells in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is the soft tissue in the center of bones that helps form blood cells. ALL prevents healthy blood cells from being made. Life-threatening symptoms can occur. This type of leukemia usually affects younger children. It is the most common childhood acute leukemia. However, the cancer may also occur in adults in some cases."

I wasn't quite sure how to respond so I just went with a simple

'Oh'

He handed me a paper and told me to look it over while he left the room to prepare for the tests.

The paper read:

A physical exam may reveal the following:

Bruising

Swollen liver, lymph nodes, and spleen

Signs of bleeding (petechiae, purpura)

Blood tests may include:

Complete blood count (CBC), including white blood cell (WBC) count

Platelet count

Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy

Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to check for leukemia cells in the spinal fluid

The first goal of treatment is to get your blood counts back to normal. If this occurs and the bone marrow looks healthy under the microscope, the cancer is said to be in remission. After remission, you will need more treatment to be cured. This treatment can include more chemotherapy or a stem cell transplant from a donor. Chemotherapy is the first treatment used to try and put you into remission.

The first time you receive chemotherapy, you may need to stay in the hospital for several weeks.

Later you may receive chemotherapy as an outpatient, meaning you come to a clinic to receive the treatment.

If you have a low white blood cell count, you may need to be placed in a hospital room by yourself so you do not catch an infection from other people.

Bust what really caught my eye was the last part of the paper which read:

The Possible Complications are as follows:

Bleeding

Damage to different organs from chemotherapy

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)

Relapse of ALL

Severe infection

Spread of the cancer to other parts of the body

Most of this was gibberish to me, and I didn't like the complications at all. They frightened me. But I knew I had to do this. For me and the boys. I had to be strong and get through this.

A little while later the doctor came back and started preforming the tests.

It had been a while since we were told that Louis was awake. It had also been a while since we were told he was to be tested for cancer. It hurt just thinking about it. He was always such a nice, kindhearted person. I don't understand why this had to happen to him. I was snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of a door slam followed by loud footsteps. I looked up from my hands and saw a girl who looked to be fifteen maybe with her face buried in her knees as she was sitting on the floor. She had lilac hair that faded into a light shade of blue at the ends that fell over her face so I couldn't see what she looked like. I slowly walked up to her, gently sitting next to her.

"Hi, love."

I say softly, as to not startle her.

*-*Scarlet*-*

"Hi, love."

A deep voce said, making me jump a little. I looked up, wiping my eyes.

"H-Hello,"

I said, still trying to rid my eyes of the tears.

"Whats wrong?"

He asked, looking genuinely concerned.

"I'd rather not pour my heart out to a total stranger,"

I told him. It seemed meaner when I said than when I thought it. Oh well, it was the truth.

"We don't have to be strangers you know...Lets get to know eachother..."

He said, with a joyful glint in his eyes. I sigh, knowing that if I say no he'll keep trying. He seemed like the stubborn type of person.

"Okay..."
