Job?

I woke up early and head to the kitchen, and I worked on making breakfast for us. I'm getting more used to eating every day, but me waking up early to make breakfast for my mother was something I had to do. If breakfast wasn't on the table for her by the time she was downstairs, I was punished severely. Even more so if dinner wasn't on the table from when she got back from 'work' selling drugs in back end allies, and buying beer.

I jumped when I heard the coffee pot turn on, and saw kuroo standing there. I was shaking slightly. What was he going to do? "Morning y/n." He said with a yawn. "What ya making?"

"T-Tamagoyaki." I say, cursing myself in my mind for my stutter.

"Nice. Want me to make some rice to go with it?" I shake my head.

"N-no I've got it." He raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you insist on doing things yourself?" I stay silent. "You can tell me if you want. I'm not gonna judge." He's gonna judge me. He's gonna kick me out.

"No reason." I say, deciding that's the best answer.

"Then let me help." He sure is insistent isn't he? I sigh.

"Okay." I say, deciding to give in. He hasn't told me to leave, but I don't want to be a free loader. I think I might try to find a job, so I'm not contributing nothing. He tried to strike up conversation, but I was mostly lost in thought on what job would be a good fit for me. I'm not the best with social interactions, so something with little to no interaction would be good.

"What are you muttering about?" I jumped a little. He chuckled.

"S-sorry."

"It's fine. But what are you so wrapped up in your head about?"

"Oh nothing. I was just thinking of what I could possibly do."

"With what?" I sigh.

"I was thinking of looking for some sort of job. You haven't told me to leave yet, and I don't want to be a free loader." He hums for a second.

"Do you have any degrees?" I nod.

"I went to community collage virtually. I have a degree in fine arts. But with the way things were at home I wasn't allowed to use it." I mutter the last bit.

"And why's that?" I panic. I didn't think he'd hear that.

"Umm... My mother was a bit controlling. She wasn't happy with my degree choice and she didn't consider it a real one. She wouldn't let me work until I agreed to get a real one."

"Why didn't you go and get one anyways?"

"I tried. She found my resume's and burned them in front of me. Then she said that next time I did that, It's gonna be me in the fire." He looks at me with wide eyes.

"You do realize that's assault, right?" I nod. "Is that why you ran?" I nod again. It wasn't the actual reason, but it definitely made me consider it.

"What about you? What do you do?" I ask, embarrassed that I never asked.

"I'm a chemistry teacher at my old high school."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. Back when I attended, I was the captain of our volleyball team." I can see it.

"That's pretty cool. My mom never let me stay out for longer than school hours. Then I had an hour to get home and study. She wanted to make sure I didn't fail, so I wasn't allowed to stay out with friends back in high school."

"That sucks." He said as we finished breakfast and started eating. "Hey, I know what job would work for you!" He says enthusiastically out of nowhere. I jump a tiny bit when he does that. I hope he didn't notice. "Maybe a graphic designer? I have a friend who runs a video game company, and he's always looking to hire some more for new character designs and backdrops. I can give him a call and see if I can get you an interview! How does that sound?"

"Oh- it's fine, you really don't-"

"Too late, I'm doing it. You work on your resume, I'll call him, and then we'll get you some work clothes after I get back today. Deal?" I sigh.

"Deal."
