Wilbur walks so quickly that Dream has to take the lead in order for us to keep up. I can practically feel the smug smile on his face as I stumble after them, trying my best to not fall as Dream drags me along by the hand.
We walk through a part of Firebend that was still slightly unfamiliar, and as we turn down a small street, I realize just how nice the houses look. They're cozy, yet fairly modern, and definitely big enough for the two of us. Exactly what we want. The area around the small collection of houses is perfect as well.
It's tranquil, yet not secluded. Faint noises from the city ring in the background, but they would be virtually noiseless from within the house. I look over to Dream and watch as he takes in the scene, and though I can't see his face, I can tell that a faint smile plays on his features. I can't help but smile as well.
We could be happy here. Together. After all that we've been through, together, and apart, we could finally have some peace and quiet.
"How do you like it?" Wilbur breaks the silence, turning back towards Dream and me. I snap my eyes away from Dream and look back to Wilbur.
"I think it's perfect." I answer for us, and Dream nods, clearly agreeing with my opinion.
"I'll leave you guys to see the inside and whatnot. If it ends up not being right for you, just come find me. I should be somewhere around Niki's bakery if you need me." He says and turns, stalking away before we get a chance to say goodbye.
I remember the bakery that I saw when we first arrived in Firebend, sitting next to what appeared to be a thrift shop. I wonder if that's the bakery he's talking about. I have to assume it is.
Dream squeezes my hand, breaking me out of my thoughts. Looking over at him, he looks down at me, suppressing a giggle. I chuckle lightly and smile up at him.
"Well let's not just stand here then, c'mon!" I exclaim, pulling him forward, towards the house. As I reach the front door, I turn the doorknob, revealing the light and cozy interior of the house, welcoming us in. We walk inside, shutting the door behind us with a soft click.
"It's..." My voice leaves me as I look around, taking in the furniture and structure of the house, stunning me into silence. It looks incredible. A few things I would change, but mostly, perfect.
"Amazing." Dream whispers breathily, squeezing my hand again, turning his head each way to look around. Something catches my eye, and I let my fingers slip from his to go over to it. Hanging on the wall in the living room is a framed picture, and as I get closer, I fight the tears threatening to slip from my eyes.
It's a picture of Sapnap and I from when we were younger. His arm is slung over my shoulders casually, and my face is scrunched up, playfully annoyed. Sapnap's grin in the picture is contagious. I have to force myself to look away before the tears flow freely from my eyes.
He must've kept it, through everything. He kept it safe. I swallow hard, pushing down the bubble that's formed in my throat, shaking my head lightly to try to get rid of my thoughts. I notice Dream walking around the kitchen, inspecting the countertops, opening and closing cabinets, the whole nine yards.
