A Year Later

After Zac and Isabella met in person for the first time, their connection got even stronger. They hung out as much as they could the rest of the summer. Zac went with Isabella to help her finish setting up her classroom and even took a break from Hollywood to focus on her.

The paparazzi tried to get pictures of them together, wanting a hint at what Zac Efron's Soulmate looked like, but he promised to keep Isabella's life private from his fans and he planned to keep that promise.

Even though their connection has been formed for a year, they haven't moved in together yet. Isabella didn't want to move in together until after they were married or at least engaged. Zac respected her wishes and instead made sure that they spent time together every day.

Isabella's second year of teaching started in a few weeks and Zac was still enjoying his break from Hollywood. The more he was away from that life and focused on a life with Isabella, the more he realized he wasn't missing anything. As long as he had Isabella, his life was perfect.

While Isabella was at a staff meeting before the school year, Zac decided to head to her parent's house and ask them a question. He nervously wiped his hands on his pants as he waited for them to answer the door.

"Zac," Alice said, pleasantly surprised. She wiped her hands on her apron as she greeted him with a smile that made him think of Isabella. "What are you doing here, honey? Isabella's at work."

"I know," he chuckled awkwardly. "She has her big before school starts staff meeting today. I was actually hoping I could come in and visit with you and Jack, and talk to you about something."

"Of course," she chuckled. "Come on in. Jack is in the garage. Make yourself comfortable. I'll go get him."

As Alice ran into the garage looking for Jack, Zac walked into their family room and sat down. He rubbed his hands on his pant legs, trying to shake the nerves. He jumped when he heard the door to the garage open and shut. He stood up and turned around as Jack came into the room.

"Afternoon, Zac," Jack greeted.

"Hello, sir," Zac nodded as he shook Jack's hand.

After Isabella and Zac met for the first time, they decided to get their parents together and have dinner. That night, Isabella's father pulled Zac to the side and had the kind of conversation you'd expect a father to have with his daughter's Soulmate.

Jack simply told Zac that he loved his daughter and wanted to make sure she was in good hands. Jack admitted to being wary of Zac and being protective of Isabella. Not that Zac could blame him. Jack had to watch his daughter grow up without a Soulmate for her connection to only be formed after an accident that almost cost her her life.

Zac promised Jack that he would always be there for Isabella. He swore on his life that she would want for nothing, need nothing. He even went as far as to say that if he had to, he would give up acting for her. Once he said that Jack seemed to warm up to him.

"What can I help you with, Zac?"

They sat down, a small silence falling between the three of them. Zac cleared his throat before starting the speech he's been practicing for the last week.

"Well," he said, clearing his throat. "As I'm sure you know, Isabella and my connection has been formed for almost a year. A year tomorrow to be exact. And I've thought a lot about this. About her and the future I want us to have. But before we go any further, I wanted to make sure my plans with your daughter are the same plans you have for us."

Alice glanced over at her husband knowingly. Jack reached over and grabbed her hand, instantly intertwining their fingers.

"Go on," Jack nodded.
