Zac's POV

"Why the hell did you leave?"

I turned around to see Max angrily walking out of the conference room with Dylan and Darin following behind him.

"Max," I sighed. "Isabella's still in the hospital and is having an anxiety attack. I couldn't let her go through that alone."

"Who's Isabella?" Darin asked.

"My Soulmate," I explained. "She was in a bad car accident four days ago and woke up yesterday. I've been trying to talk her through it."

"Look," Max sighed, "I'm sorry that she got into the accident. It's terrible but. . ."

"Is she okay?" Darin cut off Max's lecture.

"I don't know," I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. "She acts like she's fine, but I think she's in a lot of pain. I wish I knew where she was so I could go be with her."

"What?" Max asked through his teeth. "You can't leave. We're about to start planning."

"If she's in the hospital, you should go see her."

"Really?" I asked. I glanced at Dylan before looking back at Darin. "You'd seriously be okay with me leaving to go see her?"

"Zac," Darin chuckled. "Your Soulmate is in the hospital. You should be with her."

"Thank you," I said before leaving the office.

I walked into my apartment as my phone started ringing. I pulled it out of my pocket and smiled when I saw my mom's contact.

"Hey, Mom."

"Hi, sweetie. You sound happy."

"I have some good news," I said, unable to wipe the smile from my face.

"What is it?" She asked, an excited giggle coming through the phone.

"I finally formed the connection with my Soulmate."

"Oh, Zac," she sighed. "I'm so happy for you, honey. Tell me about her."

"Well," I chuckled awkwardly. "Her name is Isabella and she's about to start teaching high school English."

"Aww," Mom cooed. "Tell me more."

"She amazing, Mom," I sighed, not caring that I sounded like a high schooler as I talked about Isabella. "It's so easy to talk to her. And her laugh? It's literally the best thing I've ever heard. Oh! We were talking about what I should call her and she came up with 'darling'. At first, I thought it was kind of weird but it's perfect for her. Calling her that is a natural instinct. I can't believe I waited so long to reach out to her. I feel like a coward and a jerk for making her wait."

"Honey," she sighed.

"The craziest thing is that she's forgiven me, Mom. She's completely forgiven me for making her wait all these years. I don't deserve her."

"Yes, you do," she cut me off. "And I'm really proud of you for making the connection."

"I didn't really make the connection," I confessed.

"What are you. . ." Mom didn't finish her question. "Zac, honey, did Isabella get hurt? Was she. . . Oh my. . ."

"She was in a car accident," I said, my voice getting caught in my throat. "It was really bad, Mom. I felt her pain. I tried to reach out to her but she could barely talk to me. I only knew she was okay because I finally heard the sirens. She slipped into a coma for four days."

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart," she sighed. "How is she?"

"She's awake," I said, not meaning to sound relieved. "I've been talking to her. She acts like she's fine, but she's in a lot of pain and it's killing me. All I want to do is help her and it's torturing me that I can't."

"I'm really proud of you, Zac."

"What?" I asked, caught off-guard.

"I know that your father and I are the reason you've hesitated to reach out to Isabella all these years. And it may not have been the most conventional way to form your connection, but it saved her life."

"You really believe that?" I asked, my voice lowering to a whisper.

"I do," she said, slightly chuckling. "You forming the connection gave her the strength she needed to pull through. If you hadn't reached out to her, she wouldn't have fought as hard as she did."

"Zac?"
