Chapter 1
Sabrina POV
I wake up to the sound of Jocie yelling at me.
"Tala!" she yells. She doesn't like my name. She always wanted a girl named Tala, so she calls me Tala.
"Yah?" I ask. I can hear her footsteps coming up the stairs so I sit up in my bed waiting for her to come into my room. She barges into the room.
"When I call you, I expect you to come to me," Jocie says.
"Yes Jocie," I say.
"Now get downstairs," she orders me. I get up and go downstairs in my pj's to see Catherine sitting down at the dinning table looking upset. I start to head back upstairs when Jocie stops me. "Where do you think you're going?" she asks.
"To pack my stuff," I say and go upstairs. I close the door so that while I pack, Jocie can't see me cry. I start to pack a few of my clothes knowing this was going to happen again. I hear the door open. "Jocie, I'm packing. Please leave me alone," I say and turn to the door. To my surprise I see Catherine in her nice suit and her long blonde hair straightened. "Oh," I say and go back to packing.
"This can't keep on happening," Catherine says. I stop packing. I froze in anger. I turn to her.
"You think this is my fault? Do you really think I want to be sent to a new home every few months because they don't like me? Do you really think I force them to not like me? Because if you do, then you put camera's around here to see what's going on?" I say and go back to packing.
"There must be something you might say or do that you can change so that someone will like you," Catherine says.
"You don't think I've tried?" I ask. I take the last thing of mine in the room. A picture. I barley look at it because it brings me back to when I was 6. I put it in my suitcase. I grab my stuff and leave the room. I can tell Catherine is following me. I look over at Jocie and all she does is look at me disgustedly. I roll my eyes and leave the house. I will never be able to say goodbye to the 'friends' I have. At least I don't have to see Gwen, Kaitlyn, and their boyfriends. As I put my suitcase into the trunk I see the bruise on my arm. I take a coverup and put it on so Catherine doesn't see. I get into the car reliving every few months the same as before. Catherine gets into the car after talking to Jocie. I saw her give the last check to Jocie. I roll my eyes as I see Jocie Wave goodbye. We start to leave the house and get to Catherine's work. Thankfully I will never have to see Jocie again. Sadley, I still haven't found a foster parent that likes me. I've been in 34 foster homes in total and this will be my 35. The longest I've ever been in foster care is 6 months, and that man only wanted the money for himself. Near the end, I didn't have food for days. Catherine came and saw that I was starved and took me out of his cutstody and then put me with Jocie. I was with Jocie for 2 months and a half. It's hard to find people who haven't heard about me or even like me in Maimi, Florda. I wonder where she is bringing me now. She brings me into the building and I see many familar faces although they are not happy to see me. I go into her office with her and sit in the chair I've sat in 35 times before. I put my stuff on the ground as she sits in her chair.
"I can't find anywhere else that people might actually want you. I have looked. Yes there are some people that want a girl or want to have a kid, but just like every other foster parent I've sent you to, they have had kids before. They know that your behaviour is not exeptable and if they get fed up they can wait a few more years for grandchildren," Catherine says. She hads me the portfolio of the next person(s) who will be my foster parent(s). I see it's a wavy, black, haired woman who is 37. It says she can't conceive a child and has been looking for adoption but wants to get to know the kid first. So she is doing foster care. She is divorced and lives in....... "Now there's one problem," Catherine says.
"I'm moving across the country?!" I ask yelling and standing up. "No way," I say.
"You have to. There's no one else around here that wants you because of your attitude problem," Catherine says calmly.
"I'm moving to California?! Can't you find someone? ANYONE?" I ask. She shakes her head.
"Many people want to be foster parents, all of them have heard about how you push people away, how you give them attitude, how you never interact with them," Catherine says. I slowly sit back down. I look at this woman who is willing to be my foster mom. Maybe Catherine is right.
"This will give you a new begining. A chance to become someone else. A chance to change who you are," Catherine says. I look up at her.
"You can't change me without changing my past," I say. It was dead silent for the longest time. Then Catherine got a call. She left her office and I was there alone. She talked to someone, most probably the woman because she was talking about me. She came back in and was still on the phone but I could see that the person on the other line was on hold.
"You have to make your decision now. She is a very kind hearted woman looking for a little girl to call her own," Catherine said. I looked back down at the woman's picture. She did look very kind. I nodded. Catherine started talking ti the woman again. Once they were off the phone Catherine told me about her and stuff but right now I don't care. I look up at Catherine and she is now talking to me about my flight. "So, you will be on your flight tonight at around 12pm and you will get there at around 2:10pm there," Catherine says. I fogot about the time change. I will have to get used to that. She gives me my plane ticket. I take it and put it in my purse with my phone they gave me and my money that they also give me. I get $30 every week just incase that anyone forgets to feed me. Catherine gives me food she bought at a breakfast place before she got me and brings me to the lobby where I have to wait until 11am. At least I only have an hour to wait. I start to eat my pancakes as I look through this woman's profile more. Her name is Caili Lockett, she is a doctor in a children's hospital, loves to cook, and is moving from New York to Los Angeles, California. I look at the time. It's 10:56am. Soon Catherine will be coming to drop me off at the airport. I go back to looking at Caili's profile. It says she will be working at one of the main children's hospital in Los Angeles. I feel a hand on my shoulder and look up to see Catherine. I nod and get up. I get my things and get into her car. We head to the airport at around 11:20. We go through customs which took forever and I say goodbye to Catherine. I go to my airplane's gate and it's 11:45. They start to board people and soon enough I was boarded. I fell asleep on the plane listening to Adele. When I woke up, I heard the captin speaking saying we have just landed and will be leaving the plane in 10 minutes. I put my phone into my purse with the extra $50 that Catherine gave me more then the already $30. As we leave the plane I remember Catherine that the woman, Caili, is suppose to be picking me up. Catherine said Caili wound have a sign that has my name on it. I go down the stairs and see many people waiting by the bagage pick-up. I look around and see Caili. I could tell it was her without the big sign that has my name on it. I could tell she knew it was me too. Am I really that noticable. I go up to her, it was really awkward. I shook her hand.
"Hi, I'm Caili Lockett," she says with a smile. I give her a fake smile. Hopefully she doesn't notice. She continues, "You must be,..." I cut her off.
"Sabrina. Sabrina Carpenter," I said. She nods.
"Ok well, let's go get your suitcases and get us to our new home," she said putting her arm around me. I've never had this before. It's nice. I've only know this once before and it was with...never mind.
