Chapter 1
“Stacey Mae!” my theology teacher, Mr. Edgars, yells at me. He caught me sleeping in his class for the third time in his forty five minute class. “I have already told you several times to stay awake in class and you continue to ignore me. See me afterwards.”
I sigh and sit up in my seat some. This is the last period of the day too. Great, now I’m going to be late for dance practice today. And Miss Kandy is going to chew me up for it. Because this is not the first time I’ve been late for practice because of teachers wanting to see me after class for my behavior.
Two minutes later the bell rings and everyone starts exiting the classroom except for me. I stand up and walked up to Mr. Edgars’ desk, with a bored expression on my face. Ready to here the same lecture I always get from him about how I need to actually try.
“Stacey, I am not pleased. Do you know why?” he asked with his hands folded on the top of his desk.
“Because, I’m a failure as a student.” I said as I rolled my eyes.
“Very close. It’s because you accept you’re a failure as a student and it affects your school work. If you tried not being a failure it could help you a lot.”
“Alright then. I will try more.” I said.
“You always say you will but you never do and we end up having this conversation again.”
“This time I really will then.” I said shrugging my shoulders as to ask what else he expects me to do.
“I want to see improvement, Miss Johnson. You may leave.”
“See ya, Mr. E.” I said walking from the classroom. I walked into the crazy hallway that was usually always occupied with jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, sluts, dramatics, musicians, emos, dancers, normals, and couples. It was now exactly 3:00 pm, and school gets out at 2:45, so everybody was either at a school club, sports practice, behind the school selling certain illegal substances, or at home. The whole hallway was deathly quiet. It somewhat scared me, and I sort of liked it too. I could hear every single noise made. The soles of my worn out converses squeaking on the ground, and the screech of my locker door opening. I quickly threw my stuff into it. I tried pulling my dance bag from my locker but failed. I continued pulling until I finally got it out stumbling backwards and knocking into someone.
“Oh, I am so sorry.” The person behind me said. I turned around and found myself looking into the eyes of a blonde girl around my age with deep brown eyes. She was gorgeous and something about her made me want to hug her. But trust me, I didn’t. She smiled at me with teeth so white she looked like a Colgate model.
“It’s cool.” I said fixing my hair and shirt. I turned back to my locker and closed it. “Are you new here?”
“No, I’m not. I’m here because I have to find someone.” She said with a smile.
