"I.... have to tell you something."
Silence envelopes the room. Sunny stares down at his feet, tears pouring down from his eye. His weight is off his chest, his heartbeat feeling louder and louder as he braces for anything.
"....." Hero takes a deep sigh, breaking the silence. Tears stinging his eyes. No longer did he feel like he wasn't enough for Mari... he grips his hands into fists tightly but soon releases them. He didn't know how to feel but he knew that it didn't matter yet. He walks over to Sunny and hugs him.
"Thank you for telling me."
Sunny's eye widened as he felt Hero's warmth. He flinched but that only made Hero hug tighter.
Aubrey's eyes couldn't stop forming tears but she managed to slowly inch her way to Hero and Sunny.
"I'll scold you later but I know you already punished yourself enough for this."
Kel couldn't mutter a single word but he managed to force himself and Aubrey into Hero and Sunny's hug.
Basil smiled since Sunny doesn't need protection.
He's okay.... we're okay...
Once they were all together, they knew they needed each other to heal and move on.=====
Kel closes the hospital door and takes a deep sigh.
"You hanging in there?"
Hero walks up to him and leans on the wall with his back.
"It's... hard to take in. I feel.. weird about everything. On one hand I'm glad that we all know, on another hand I'm upset that Sunny and Basil internalized all of this and I'm just bewildered on how they could hang..."
Hero passes him a drink of orange joe and closes his eyes.
"I'm with you.. let's make the best of this situation and try to rebuild this. I don't want to lose anyone else and if anything... while Sunny accidentally did that..."
Hero takes in more air his voice slightly shaky
"He saved Basil last night while no one else did. I'm also sure those two need all of us in order to live."
"...."
Aubrey walks over and throws her back onto a wall and slumps down.
She wasn't able to mutter a single world after the truth came out. Her mind fuzzy from so many emotions. She felt angry. She felt upset. She felt defeated. She felt empty.
She balled her fist and screamed, throwing her fist into a wall, alarming Hero and Kel."Hey!! Stop!"
Aubrey couldn't reason with herself and prepared to hit the wall again with more force than the first punch. As she leaned her body into the wall, Hero grabbed Aubrey's hand and yanked her away from the wall. Kel got up suddenly and rushed into Hero's bag, grabbing some wraps. Kel got upset and raised his voice, "We all feel upset Aubrey, but we can't let ourselves form destructive habits!"
Aubrey struggled against Hero and tried to free herself.
"Let me go!"
Hero tightened his grip.
"Not until you promise me that you won't hurt yourself. I'm not going to let any one of you get more hurt."
The same silence from earlier creeped its way again. After what seemed forever, Aubrey gave in and begrudgingly forfeited.
".....okay."
After the tense air disappeared, Hero tended to Aubrey's hand, their hearts all heavy.
=====
Knock, knock.
"Basil may I come in?"
Basil's eyes flung open. It's been a day since everything happened so he was surprised that he wanted to be seen.
".....yeah." Basil nodded to himself and took a lot of deep breathes, his anxiety creeping in.
"Thanks!" Kel flung the door open with Aubrey behind him. They both walked over and took a seat in the chairs next to Basil's bed.
"How are you doing Basil?" Kel made sure to use his positive energy to carry the conversation.
"...well umm... alright..? I need to stay here for tonight and I'll be released tomorrow.."
Basil got a controller and raised his bed slightly.
"That's good to hear! Sunny's going to be staying here for either two or three days."
Basil shuttered, guilt creeping up for the damage he did to Sunny. "....how's his eye..? Will.. he recover..?"
"I'm not sure honestly. Some nurses told me he'll be okay, some told me he might be permanently or partially blind."
Basil started to shake and Kel immediately noticed.
".....buuuuut...! He seems to be doing well! Hero's going to take care of him. In fact instead of going on an internship he managed to convince his college to take care of Sunny as training!"
Basil sighed in relief knowing that Sunny is managing.
After a while of relaxing and taking in the atmosphere Kel looked over to Aubrey and nodded at her, urging her to do something."......sorry."
Aubrey looked down at her feet, kicking her sneakers together to help herself think straight.
".. hey... it's okay." Basil shook a bit in surprise but gathered up courage to take a hold of Aubrey's hand and smiled, giving Aubrey the courage to look at him in the eyes.
"... no no... I'm really sorry. I... only thought about myself for the past four years... but this time I'll try my best to think about all of you. I'm not going to bully someone to feel better about myself ever again..."
Aubrey began breaking down and shortly enough Basil and Aubrey hugged it out.
Kel smiled, content that Aubrey was finally able to start building a bridge again with Basil.
"Once you two get out of the hospital, let's try making a new tree house!!"
Aubrey side eyed him.
"Sunny's moving."
"Annnnnd? We got the internet! Let's build a tree house and set up a gaming room for us to all be together even if we're far apart..... plus we need a new treehouse if we can't go to Sunny's house!"
Basil chuckled to Kel's comments and hummed.
"Me and Sunny want you all to be happy.. it's why we couldn't say anything earlier... don't be afraid for us to make new tree houses to make new memories."
"Ah heck yeaaah! I knew it was going to be cool!" Kel smirked at Aubrey, grinning at his win.
Aubrey shuck her head and sighed. "Alright." She smirked slightly, content with how things are going.
